These insights also raise questions about current RTI treatment practices in CF, especially as novel modulator therapies become available. More research is needed to understand how we can optimize care in this new era.

In our study, a lower nasal microbiota diversity in infants with CF is associated with more frequent RTIs (independent from antibiotic therapies or other confounders). This suggests that early-life microbial changes could increase infection risk.

However, Antibiotics 💊 and RTIs 🦠 further amplify differences in microbiota between CF infants and controls, with diversity changes that may impact long-term health. Could targeting the nasal microbiota offer new ways to manage CF-related RTIs?
