🚨🚨🚨"Top maths society withdraws ‘unlawful’ trans inclusion policy" After a chat with their lawyers, the London Mathematical Society decided they didn't want to take on the Supreme Court after all. Ridiculous that I had to lawyer up. https://t.co/GkSlzt1vQm

Well done @johnarmstrong5 ! I mean, as well as the Supreme Court judgement, I would imagine that an academic society would find itself bound by academic freedom legislation. https://t.co/EIBNy9cMGl

The London Mathematical Society backed down after a gender-critical lecturer whose objections were ignored threatened legal action

One of the biggest threats to academic freedom in the UK is your leadership @DrJoGrady, of @UCU. You don't defend the academic freedom of academics in the UK unless it suits your politics. You were, and are silent about, or dismissive of the attacks on Profs Stock, Freedman,
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, the biggest threat to academic freedom in the UK is the marketisation of higher education. The accusation here could not be more serious: that the university traded important research on human rights violations in China, for access to

To be clear, it's 100% irrelevant whatever the EHRC regulatory impact assessment would say. It doesn't matter. The law is the law, and this is guidance to help organisations stay on right side of it. It's just the govt is too scared to back the law on women's rights. For shame.

This answer doesn’t explain the grossly overblown & misleading tweet and video from the @hackneygreens. Even @ZackPolanski was on the bandwagon! @ZoeGarbett and @ZackPolanski should correct the record and also withdraw it from Facebook, Instagram and their other social media.
@VincentStops @ZoeGarbett The video stated funding was ‘secured’, which is accurate (and Hackney contributed), though we have deleted this tweet where the caption may cause confusion.

Update from the Killing Fields of Sudan: Maternity hospital massacre leaves 460 dead as patients and staff are butchered; 2,000 civilians were executed in two days. UN resolutions: zero. Protesters in London: couple of dozen. Coverage of Sudan carnage in media: minimal.
The ignored and brutal civil war in Sudan, which has already claimed 150,00 lives and displaced millions, has now taken an even more terrible turn in El Fashir, under siege and suffering famine. RSF rebels have captured the city, triggering the panicked flight of its remaining

The govt has asked for an impact assessment that could take a year before it lays the statutory guidance on Equality Act/gender/sex before Parliament. But it's guidance on law *as it already stands* Cowardly and pathetic from a govt scared to implement the law on women's rights

The response of Professor Michael Ben-Gad to the harassment he has faced is a lesson in how to inspire a love of free speech in universities. He has taken his fight to the public, making his case with clarity and wit. His Vice Chancellor, Anthony Finkelstein, should be

"I feel I have a duty here, one that I feel I’ve been neglecting in my past few years of silence”, says Serena Worley, the 21 year-old Secretary of @CUSocOfWomen. All academics should read this brilliant interview with three courageous young women who put us to shame.
EXCL: "Women Launching Society for Women" shouldn't be news, but in the higher education sector in 2025 this is a controversial act. The students behind the CUSW tell of cancellation and gender propaganda everywhere. They've had enough. https://t.co/jKjFlYYVkr

@BarbaraRich_law @M_B_Levin Neither the BBC nor the Guardian have covered Michael Ben-Gad's case. It's so disappointing.

This bloke’s response to the new Brownshirts has been brilliant. Completely unbowed. Same for his colleagues, especially @ianpacemain, and the senior admin of @CityStGeorges. Hopefully all future attempts to intimidate UK academics by activists on the left or their counterparts
What a breath of fresh air Professor Michael Ben-Gad is. Absolute mensch! Thank you also to @ProfAliceS and other academics who have not only come out in support of Prof Ben-Gad, but have faced down intimidating threats and abuse themselves. @joshxhowie
