UK, under Truss as Foreign Sec, led the charge to get the ICC to investigate Russia’s war crimes vs Ukraine. But when it comes to the Israeli Govt (also, like Russia, not a signatory), our hypocritical Govt likes to claim the ICC has no authority?
Weird that Labour will spend so long trawling through the social media accounts of any left winger who dares to run but wouldn't check something basic like "can this candidate legally be a councillor "
Outrageous to hear Foreign Office Minister in House of Commons undermine authority of the International Criminal Court. The ICC has jurisdiction in relation to any alleged crimes committed in Gaza and in the West Bank. All involved must uphold international law.
As we could have predicted, the British government has failed the test, claiming the ICC doesn’t have jurisdiction. This is legal sophistry driven by the UK’s shameless support for Israel, whom it continues to arm. This amounts to complicity in the crimes that Israel now stands
"You can get all those policies and the party for you is the Green Party."
@carla_denyer
speaks to
@novaramedia
about the Green Party's vision for a fairer, greener country.
Baffling to me that people think Keir Starmer is going to improve.
We saw during the leadership election that he had genuinely exciting policies - ditched in an instant.
Labour politicians don't get more transformative when they're in power. They swing even more to the right.
Quite unbelievable this is the response of Labour to suggestions we shouldn't starve children.
If they're just going to do exactly the same as the Tories, what's the point of the Labour party?
Thanks Eoin. And thanks everyone for the solidarity in the last 48 hours.
We will never be silenced from calling attention to the atrocities in Gaza.
And we know our Jewish and Muslim communities will stand united against those who seek to divide us for political gain.
I was on a radio debate today with
@CliveEfford
- Labour MP
@TimesRadio
I said one of biggest problems of influence in politics was huge corporate donations that go to both the Conservative Party but also the Labour Party too.
He said "you can't just make up nonsense."

Today I’m remembering Richard who my mum was carer for, he was given blood infected with HIV and his family turned their backs on him. He was so lonely and lost his sight, I used to go and read to him. Rest in peace lovely man.
I am proud to be a member of a party
@TheGreenParty
that recognizes this, I am proud that
@ZackPolanski
,
@carla_denyer
and all other officials and members recognize this, and have had the courage to say so from the beginning.
I would have much more respect for both Starmer and his supporters if they just held their hands up and accepted they got this one wrong. We heard the interview, why try and gaslight?
Folks who say they want to improve honesty in politics - this is a great place to start.
Why am I political?
Why is my existence political?
Why am I a 'side' to show allegiance for/against?
Now THAT is the important question you should be asking yourself...

If they don’t support the indictments, and of course the US won’t, they will be complicit in blowing up the international rule of law. The world is watching.
"International law applies to everyone.
Nothing on earth can justify willfully depriving human beings of the basic necessities required for life. Nothing on earth."
Independent judges of the International Criminal Court.
It's striking how badly both the government and the Labour party have been on this.
Keir Starmer will claim this is never what he meant - but Emily Thornberry followed him defending his comments.
Either she was acting rogue or they made an active choice to defend war crimes.
The below should remind us of the comments made by Keir Starmer on LBC in October 2023:
“ Israel has the right to do everything it can to get those hostages back safe and sound.”
He also said “Israel has the right” to withhold power and water from Palestinian civilians.
