6 yrs ago in downtown Atlanta, Thurs night 9pm, a young woman alone (meeting friends later?) was getting yuppie food stamps ($20 bills) from a Suntrust ATM, outdoor one mounted in the wall at the street corner. I'd gone outside the coffeeshop to make a call. A beggar approached
3 men at the gas station just whistled at me, looked me up and down, and made comments to each other about my body.
I froze holding the gas pump. My heart raced, my head got dizzy and my body felt unmovable. I had to will my body and mind back.

It’d take a while to detail it but I think the increased problems of train derailments, factory fires, etc, from deferred ‘someone else’s problem’ maintenance & demotivated proactiveness, have this as one upstream cause. The individual man is scorned in favor of the bureaucracy.
