These guys are doing an excellent job within maddening regulatory constraints. They would of course look much nicer with bigger windows but builders get hammered by the state for such opulence.
Volume builders like Wyatt homes are leaning into the traditionalist revival. They deserve credit. But imagine how much easier it would be for them if there was a bonfire of housing regs!

Parents who let their kids skive school will now receive taxpayers money if they say their child has a mental health condition. I see no perverse incentives here at all. None whatsoever.
A fifth more children entirely missing school. So naturally Labour have watered down rules to make it easier for their parents to get benefits - even if they don't go. #facepalm

In attempting to muscle in and "co-lead" Corbyn's Your Party, Zarah Sultana has seemingly crashed the whole thing into the dirt. She announced it before Corbyn and co were ready. She launched a fake membership system and took £800,000. Then she boycotted the first day of their

Come back, Sir Tony, all is forgiven.
This is an absolutely brilliant chart from @TomHCalver, one of the clearest I've seen in demonstrating how the UK tax system has become markedly more progressive (pre-tax income share of the top 10% has barely moved during this period, from 35.9% in 2002 to 36.6% in 2023)

🆕 In today’s Playbook, our polling over the weekend found that hypothetical support for Your Party has halved since July when 8% of Brits said they would back a Corbyn/Sultana Party today that figure is just 4%.

🚨 NEW: OBR Chair Richard Hughes was reportedly "forced out" by Rachel Reeves after he contradicted her claims over the state of the UK's finances on Thursday Before that, the Treasury had been set to let Hughes survive the leak with only an apology [@kitty_donaldson]

A remarkable diagram from @TheIFS.
INSANE. Keir Starmer and Rachel Reeves only wanted the press, the markets, their own cabinet, Parliament, and the British people to know about the £16bn productivity downgrade. What they *deliberately withheld* was everything marked in green. Absolute whopper of a lie.

Delighted to say my phone was one of those 32 unique IP addresses. Honestly thought it was way more than that.
The person who first downloaded the OBR's document at 11:35 on Budget day (I'm guessing someone at Reuters, given they first reported it) had already guessed the web address and tried and failed to download it 32 times so far that day(!)

I don’t think anything sums up the state of the UK right now better than this. Insane.
There shouldn’t be council houses worth £2m. They should be sold, receipts ring-fenced to build social housing in more affordable areas. Frankly it is outrageous that my commuting constituents pay 50% marginal rates to fund social housing in areas they couldn’t afford to live.

The Fingleton Review exposed how a focus on 'process over outcome', has made Britain the most expensive place in the world to build nuclear power stations. The PM now wants to apply the lessons to the whole of the UK economy. Here's 3 places to start: - Building Safety: 30,000

Business optimism now lower than the Truss mini budget. Lower than the 2017 hung parliament. Lower than the actual lockdown.
Chart of the Day 🤓 This is the IOD's Economic Confidence Index, a gauge of business leaders' optimism in the prospects for the UK economy (just click on the image and zoom in...). My takeaway: this is what happens when a government gives up on growth! https://t.co/1pvwcz9g7F
