Since miscarriage is a big topic right now I want to remind you that there is a woman headed to the Supreme Court with views SO extreme that we risk women being investigated and criminally CHARGED for miscarriage.
Here is the thing. He is visibly impressed by her ambition, her talent, her success, HER POWER. Not because he wants to use it, not because it does something for him but because he sees her & celebrates her. THAT is the thing that women my age see.
Here is a man who has the dream. NFL career, cultural cache, money etc and instead of looking for a woman who will follow him around and be whatever makes his life & his dreams work, he is flying to Argentina to be Taylor’s biggest, cheesiest, cringiest love story fan.
If nothing else, I hope some small town HS football players see Travis and emulate THAT instead of the kind of man that pedastalizes a woman’s unending sacrifice while they vote for the guy who brags about grabbing women by the pussy. (End 🧵)
For over a decade we have watched powerful men try to force women to take less, be quiet, stay small & try not to attract the attention of dangerous patriotic white men. Now we have a front row set to the earnest pursuit & open adoration of an ambitious powerhouse.
No resentment visible, no jealousy. Just that kind of dreamy adolescent fantasy of a man that is totally secure in his masculinity without letting that define him choosing a woman that outshines him and enjoying it.
Travis on SNL solidified it. But a vocal & public crush on a woman who is & will always be FAR more famous & powerful than he was? Yes, it IS like a hallmark movie & it does put a sparkle in that Americana nostalgia but that’s not what is giving women my age palpitations.
Taylor with her die hard connection with her parents & Nashville start feels like the more aspirational parts of All American. She aligns with unions, takes care of her employees, takes no prisoners with her lyrics, activates voters and is unafraid to be “cringe”.
Those Kelce brothers though. They seem to be all the good things about traditional midwestern masculinity w/o the bullshit election denial. I mean, I fell in love with them during their brothers playing against each other at the Super Bowl arc.
“They never held anything back, whether it was calling out racism, calling out sexism, and they did it in a way that was incredibly effective.”

is obsessed. I consider him a rare find for his level of success. So it is thrilling to watch, from the bleachers, as TS gets to be seen & adored…not just because she exists in the service of her man’s dreams.
The term “All American” & patriotism in general has been increasingly co-opted by the most far right, christian nationalist, racist, misogynistic, xenophobic, homophobic set of voices out there. All ‘America First’ & anti-vax.
As such, 1/2 the voting members of the American population are cool with that if it keeps taxes for billionaires down. That (among other things) has created an ick factor about Americana that is pervasive for this small town Texas girl & others like me.
When fans rejected respectful BLM protest, I mourned is as another casualty of an increasing disconnect between an already fractured middle class. Obviously, football is problematic outside of politics but it is a part of this Texas girls nostalgia for childhood.

“In the end, Trump did what he said. He built a wall around America and made the world pay for it. He just never told Americans that they’d be stuck inside.”
20 years ago today I called my parents to tell them that I was crazy and that I needed them to put me in a hospital. They said, no, you are an alcoholic and you need to go to rehab. Me: “ok, but like don’t get me a flight till tomorrow..” 1/
Juuuuust a reminder that there were 83 ethics cases against this drunken red faced frat boy. Eighty-three. One more time for the people in the back. EIGHTY-THREE.
Not sarcastic at all. Life insurance, laundry, hand washing — these are all far better ways to protect your family than a gun. If that idea seems counter-intuitive to you, try this thread:
At Scouts I had them pick a community “church” and tell me a problem they see there. My 8 year old said, “women can’t be bishops”. The world run by people born post 1980 can’t come soon enough.

Dear God. Will there be less games that cater to a very specific demographic’s fantasy? Whatever will you do? Might you be forced to play or look at women you do not find attractive? Might you have to play a hero character that does not match your self expressed identity?
Mixed in my airplane Apple juice bottle was nursed from ATL to Dallas on Feb 4, 2000. That was my last drink. My life has not been perfect but it has been exciting and full of love and peace even when things feel overwhelming. 5/
If this round was all we had running...
Delaney, Tulsi And De Blasio should drop out. Inslee for head of EPA. Tim Ryan for senate. Klobachar for secretary of the interior. Booker for AG. Beto for senate. Warren/Castro ticket. We will see how tomorrow goes.

Here’s what I can’t quite wrap my head around. This is a religion that refuses to use the cross as a symbol of its faith but its young people can find a way to be ok with the confederate flag which is literally a monument to slavery and the pride cycle? Y’all. Yallllllll. 🛑
Really interesting point: “If you’re a U.S. person and you’re interested in constitutional rights, this legislation should terrify you, whether or not you support abortion rights. Why? Because if this works, it provides a template for state governments to circumvent the 1/5

Tell me you’ve never been anything BUT Mormon without telling me you’ve never been anything BUT Mormon. Across the board those who leave orthodox community or practice share about it as a form of healing, connection or empowerment. As is their birthright. No one way to mormon.

told a group of Mormon kids that God has to be a black woman. They kept talking about it and one of the kids says, “God is a tall guy with white hair and a white beard.” to which my husband replies, “uh, I think you are talking about Santa Claus”
In her final words, Ruth Bader Ginsburg said-- "My most fervent wish is that I will not be replaced until a new president is installed." She held on as long as she could for all of us.
My mother joined Twitter. I gave her fair warning that she should not follow me because I tweet like I talk in private whereas I used to Facebook post like a middleaged mother of 3. Welcome to the fucking neighborhood mom.
I want to put together a list of all mormon/exmormon/post mo/mo adjacent writers, directors, producers, DP/AD etc and etc and etc as well as musicians, actors, speakers etc. private list but one for a lil thing I am working on so if you are one or you know one please connect!

Oh they def don’t want like scientists or medical professionals in the room. Just a guy responsible for the largest swath of HIV infections in one state in the past decade.
Hey there! I see lots of new faces. Welcome! Thanks for following. Here's a photo of my family. I've also prepared a handy list of my four most retweeted threads for you.
Arizona, Arkansas, Iowa, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Texas, Utah, and Vermont & Florida have banned schools from requiring masks.

latest bullshit: Today my dad said, “Imagine how the healthcare workers feel right now. Like a weary forest fire fighter seeing a guy throw a cigarette out of his car”
My daughters youth group is doing an inside line dancing activity on Wednesday. I HATE that a CHURCH consistently puts me in a situation where I have to decide between following basic public health guidelines and letting my kids experience life with thier peers. Hate.
I wish I could find some people from my intro to sociology class at BYU. The first week the professor said something about “unnatural (read:gay) sexual behaviors” and I loudly exclaimed it was bullshit. The entire class turned around to look at me.
Sitting on a flight to LA listening to a TV crew member(who worked on BOM musical) talk to a mormon missionary on his way to his mission home. They are both being so tender and timid and kind. A gem.
I had no clue that year 20 would be the hardest one since the first year. I survived by the grace of god, the fellowship and my family. Special shout out to my TGIF group.
We interviewed experts and frontline officials from Italy, Germany, Spain, Singapore, Taiwan and South Korea.
Of all of them, we found more commonalities than differences. So…
These are the 7 things we must do before we open up America.
