The reverse of a Swede going to Japan and naming himself “Tatsumasa Murasame” would be a Japanese man going to the U.S. and naming himself “Chad Steel” or “Brandon McFreedom”, btw.

There's a chance to have his cake and eat it too -- foster growth, deliver meaningful property tax relief, AND supercharge development, all without breaking the budget, screwing over local governments, or fueling inflated everyday costs with consumption taxes.

Beyond economic effects, the governor should consider that ruby-red, super-Republican, anti-tax Texas leaders have loudly boasted for the last four years about abolishing property taxes, only to fail in two back to back legislative sessions, settling for limp half measures.

Governer DeSantis has proposed eliminating property taxes in Florida. He's half-right!. Property tax is two taxes in one. The building tax is bad, but the land tax is not. DeSantis should eliminate the building tax. Eliminating the land tax risks turning Florida into California.

If you're really a Utilitarian who's "just doing the math", whether you personally eat meat ever matters much less than aggregate net world outcome. So eat your meat and buy indulgences in bulk. But there's this other kind that obsessives over each and every personal choice.

The thing I need to constantly remind people who fetishize Norway is that yes Norway does a lot of stuff right but Norway also has a big housing affordability crisis, particularly in Oslo. The Nordic model solves many things, but it has not solved that!.

Fortunately, invalid sales have signatures that can usually be statistically detected. Automated sales validation can flag these for human review, massively cutting down on the number of sales an assessor needs to check by hand.
