The EU Commission failed in its duty to defend farmers in central and eastern Europe by deciding that there was no longer a need for a formal agreement preventing the dumping of Ukrainian agricultural products. It was a politically-disastrous decision which guaranteed division

The Polish President is absolutely right. It is unseemly for him to be prevented from speaking, while someone who defends an alliance with Hitler is apparently to be allowed to speak.

Fascinating how French president projects himself in a speech designed to show humility. Sitting at a rococo desk, dripping with gilt all around. A gold inkwell topped by a Gallic rooster. And antique books carefully placed on one side. In short, just like any homely French abode

Soviet-style falsification of history. His party opposed EEC membership. It urged voters to say "no" in the 1975 referendum on Europe. And it was ready to leave the EU in 2014. These are absolute facts

Please note: especially on the ‘counting the countries’ bit there are almost certainly mistakes. I tried to check adjectives (“chinese” in addition to “China”) and things like PRC, and deleted mentions in the glossary, but 🤷‍♀️. Should be correct enough to give you a sense though.

To all those repeating the "lifted millions out of poverty" trope: "By the time Mao died in 1976, living standards for the population were lower than in 1949". The Communist Party calls 1949 a liberation. But China was far freer beforehand.
