In the Lars Von Trier film Antichrist, Willem Dafoe's character has his dick smashed by his wife with a brick, who then gives him a hand job until blood comes out.
Somehow not the most fucked up thing in the movie

A good rule of thumb is that the whiteness of any given non-black Latinx person is based on whether or not the speaker is mad at them.

Even more dangerous: he also did that dehydration before shooting the opening scene of Les Mis. Where he had to sing. For hours of takes. It's a miracle that man doesn't sound like Aussie Miles Davis.
@TheEpicDept
This scene takes on even more of a meaning remembering that Lana Wachowski once said that as a young girl dealing with dysphoria and not understanding who she was, she once nearly attempted suicide on a subway platform
I'm sorry but if you spent the better part of six months telling trans people not to be scared because transphobia is bad electoral politics, your reaction to Joe Biden throwing trans kids under the bus anyway should be something more serious than dunking on Matt Yglesias.
@ExileGrimm
The realest part of the show is the joy you could see on the server's and line cook's faces when they realized they could talk shit about their boss on national television without any repercussions.
@GothMarxist
I'm sorry that your life is so stunted and hallow that you have developed a video game addiction as an adult where you want to do nothing other than sit in your lonely room playing, but my kids do not suffer from that affliction and enjoy traveling and meeting people.

I genuinely wonder why they do this. The cynic in me guesses that subcontracting to a (non union) CG studio is cheaper than paying makeup artists to spend hours painting Paul Bettany's face

I'm not sure how an aesthetic critique of Marvel movies that's informed by how the sausage is made is remotely close to CinemaSins' artless pedantry.

Put the scene somewhere other than a basement. Use the power of filmmaking to turn on a light in the basement. Have interesting shot composition that makes things clear onscreen.

There's one where they do the Khmer Rouge vs Saddam's bodyguards and the Khmer Rouge "expert" they bring in is a former victim and they make him describe how his family got killed.

My overthinking it answer is that because fascism in some ways arises from the politics of the patriarchal family that the fascist subject desires not only a "daddy" state but a baby existence.
@Srirachachau
I honestly assumed that Snyder was Kubrick/Hitchcock style prick on set but he genuinely seems like a guy who is genuinely nice to his actors and crew.
I haven't genuinely liked a single movie he's ever made, but he seems nice.

You don't think it's weird that, after a major public feud between a well-liked rising star director and Marvel over creative freedom that every well-liked rising star has made a statement emphasizing creative freedom even though most of these movies look the damn same?

I define working class to mean those who live entirely from the sale of their labor and do not draw profit from any kind of capital. Whose sole existence depends on the demand for labor.
@rachelmillman
Funniest part is that it doesn't seem like they made Ma Dong-Seok or Brian Tyree Henry do it. Even Richard Madden just looks like Richard Madden. They only made one guy look like Handsome Squidward and it's so funny.
@disco_socialist
Think one thing that makes the MI fight scenes so good is that Tom Cruise is willing to get his shit rocked a little bit. Both on screen and on set, you can tell a couple of those connected.
@gayest_tone
Funniest part of that movie is that Louie asked Woody Allen to play the pedophile director and Woody Allen was like "dude no what the fuck"

Kickass 2. Imagine if Michael Bay and Rob Zombie combined their sensibilities but in the process lost both of their respective talents and made a superhero movie.

The "I hate this place" monologue is one of my favorite ever written. The script for The Matrix is so good because it has a lot of really fuckin weird and out there ideas that were probably hard to grasp in 1999 and they get it across with "you think that's air you're breathing?"

Everything Everywhere is a broad sci-fi action flick, not an "art movie." We aren't talking about Un Chien Andalou or Wavelength here.

Dark places absolutely have utility in film it's just that the shot composition, blocking, and costuming make the shot in the MCU film muddy and washed out. There's no contrast or use of lines to draw your attention to anything so it washes together.
Like idk I think his core observation (that the average American finds the virulent transphobia of the Republican party distasteful at best) is mostly correct but he doesn't really grapple with the possibility that that may not matter.

Honestly my problem with the green screens and stuff isn't that they necessarily look unreal, but that all the work you have to do onset to add atmosphere or style is neglected because Marvel movies are designed to be constructed in post and shooting is functionally data capture

The way I think about it is that I spent my childhood in Miami as the lightest-skinned person in my family and I always (and still do) thought of myself as white but then when I started to meet full on white people in college they all started asking me what ethnicity I was.

César, Castro sent Cuban troops to help with the Angolan revolution. He convinced his people to die for the cause of black liberation. Nelson Mandela credits him with helping end apartheid. I don't know what else you want the man to have done.
@GothMarxist
You're an anonymous coward and loser who sits online thinking you're radical when you're actually a harmless threat to nobody, commenting judgmentally on where I go with my kids and assuming you know what they think, and are now acting shocked and bewildered that I responded.

"These wildly different directors are using their massive creative freedom to make basically the same movie 12 times" vs. "These movies are producer-driven schlock where the directorial hire is a marketing ploy"

Hate to sound like a Tumblr kid from 2012, but I do think a lot of that is David Tennant's performance. Sad he was never able to make the jump to big movie star, he deserves it.

Watching the VOD right now. Why does Riley assume that someone's intents or desires are always knowable? Like in the example where someone is barefoot in public for their partner's foot fetish, how does anyone know they're not barefoot for other reasons?

The profit motive and drive for infinite growth.
Production for use value rather than exchange value (how production is organized under communism) eliminates the need to be wasteful.
