Disagree: I’ve seen people buy cheapest advanced ticket and travel hours before on peak time trains. Only way to stop this is to scrap advanced tickets which then creates all sorts of issues and likely raises cheapest ticket prices which are attractive to many.

It would be in exactly in the same position if it was still branded as virgin. Because Avanti are under a national rail contract and answer directly to the government. This is a direct result of not being allowed to negotiate with the unions by government

Sorry Louise. Labour had a hand in what’s going on now. The woeful Northern franchise with no growth back in 2004. Refusing to subsidise TPEs class 185s to be 4 carriages back in 2006/7. What impact did that have on growth?

No Andrew, it won't save just a few minutes. It will create capacity on our existing networks for more local, regional and freight trains. It will also cut a journey from Manchester to London by nearly an hour and from Birmingham to Leeds by over an hour.

An enthusiasts train. But the Mk5's carriages are woeful. Should never have been ordered and a systematic failure of the franchising system that created needless complexity.
Gisby's comments were transparent though. Cost was the issue.

types can never grasp, is that HS2 allows the UK to transport more freight by rail taking HGV's off our roads.
Average rail freight train can take up to 80 HGV's off our roads and reduce CO2 emissions by 75%.

Minimum service levels cannot be achieved without a significant amount of workers being forced to work despite being on strike.

Given that construction only officially started in September, of course there' aren't going to be any track laid. Ground preparations are continuing, along with work for the tunnel portals to take the railway under the Chilterns.

Arseholery like this when it comes to the rail industry is why it’s in the position it’s in. No focus on government decisions on infrastructure or the fact there’s major storms going on.
Lots of people with tickets on trains to Glasgow for COP26 are now having to book flights instead because of the shambles that is the UK rail network. Highly embarrassing start to the conference.

I work in the rail industry and HS2 is the appropriate step forward this country has needed for 50 years. But if you've got another way to increase capacity, enable freight to be moved from HGV's to rail - I'm all ears.

Let’s look at the economies of scale. That tunnel would only require 2 trains with maybe one spare, similar to IOW line. A light rail system would on the bag of a fag picket calculations cost less than a fleet of Tesla that need frequently replacing as most trains last 40 years

Over 5 million journeys are made by domestic flights between the central belt in Scotland and London. To reduce Carbon, those need to be made by rail the most green form of mass transportation.

Funny how I've heard Network Rail are struggling to fill jobs on projects such as the transpennine route upgrade for works, because of HS2. Because the hours on HS2 are better - almost as if upgrading current lines involves a lot of night time and weekend work in comparison.

No they won't. The carbon emissions with the production of new EV's is actually greater than reusing old petrol cars. All that mining for raw materials, transporting them worldwide.
HS2's carbon impact overall is one month of the UK's carbon impact. It's not comparable.

has the capacity for over 21,000 people per hour. Hyperloop barely over 3,000.

As it was under Virgin. Rest Day Working has been a common practice since British Rail and has benefitted both staff and TOC's.
RDW agreements cannot be renewed without government approval, similarly wage rises. There's also a training backlog due to Covid.
