LNER have long thought of themselves as superior to other TOCs.
The last 72 hours, they've shown themselves as being this corrupt government's lapdogs. Their simpler fares are disgusting for passengers and trying to implement minimum service levels is disgraceful. Good on ASLEF
Rumour has it all TPE booking offices bar Hull, Huddersfield and Man Airport proposed to shut. And their hours will be significantly reduced which is frankly bonkers.

Man buys ticket from third party provider. Expects train operator to then print his ticket when he didn’t buy directly from them. Whatever happened to personal responsibility too?
@TheGreenParty
I despair at your short sightedness and how you’ve bought into the 55 Tufton Street messaging.
HS2 is about capacity- segregating fast services enabling more paths for freight and local services.
Thank goodness for
@Greens4HS2
@GreenJennyJones
Keep making up numbers to abandon a project that will cut road and air use - the biggest drivers of carbon. Green Party officials endorsing this is truly an embarrassment.
@MattyParker94
@GarethDennis
Disagree: I’ve seen people buy cheapest advanced ticket and travel hours before on peak time trains. Only way to stop this is to scrap advanced tickets which then creates all sorts of issues and likely raises cheapest ticket prices which are attractive to many.

It would be in exactly in the same position if it was still branded as virgin. Because Avanti are under a national rail contract and answer directly to the government. This is a direct result of not being allowed to negotiate with the unions by government

@networkrail
RMT members are some of the lowest paid on the railway including cleaners and platform staff. You're advocating a deal that means job losses and a railway that's less accessible and safe.
@CoachKevinChun
@RossLydall
you would take a deal that is significantly below inflation, puts the safety of passengers at risk and potentially puts yourself out of a job? More fool you.

Jesus wept. Rail useage at 90%+ of Pre-Covid levels without full timetabtles returning. Massive capacity constraints in and around Manchester still.
Provide solutions to these if you want to cancel HS2.
Sorry Louise. Labour had a hand in what’s going on now. The woeful Northern franchise with no growth back in 2004. Refusing to subsidise TPEs class 185s to be 4 carriages back in 2006/7. What impact did that have on growth?
On another day of rail chaos in the north, I outlined
@UKLabour
’s plan to turn the page on thirteen years of failure.
Labour will back the huge ambition of people and businesses in the north, and deliver the infrastructure fit for the century ahead.
@defsdoor
@a_leesha1
No Andrew, it won't save just a few minutes. It will create capacity on our existing networks for more local, regional and freight trains. It will also cut a journey from Manchester to London by nearly an hour and from Birmingham to Leeds by over an hour.
An enthusiasts train. But the Mk5's carriages are woeful. Should never have been ordered and a systematic failure of the franchising system that created needless complexity.
Gisby's comments were transparent though. Cost was the issue.
Robin Gisby (CEO of DOHL: TPE) on the Class 68: “An appalling train that shouldn’t be running on our network”…, neatly sidestepping the fact the locos are Euro 3a emissions compliant. Some of the claims in the video linked below might catch the eye of

Yorkshire Post cares about it's region. Tory MP's don't care about it's constituents, never mind UK residents.
Nearly 100k deaths & endless lockdowns caused by your mismanagement of this pandemic. Severe economic pain from your indecision. Get in the bin.
One thing anti-
#HS2
types can never grasp, is that HS2 allows the UK to transport more freight by rail taking HGV's off our roads.
Average rail freight train can take up to 80 HGV's off our roads and reduce CO2 emissions by 75%.
HS2 is green!
This is the Green Party who are committed 26 new major train lines and a North-South high speed rail line.
Where’s the detail? Or are they still opposed to
#hs2
without offering realistic alternatives.
@EmBeck2015
But Green Party policy is still clearly against HS2, so I don’t understand why you’d vote for any other party (especially as they do all support HS2!)
@Boca1965
Minimum service levels cannot be achieved without a significant amount of workers being forced to work despite being on strike.
All minimum service levels will do is prolong strike action and affect passengers more. A stupid political decision by the corrupt and useless Tories.

0.008% of ancient woodland with HS2 doing considerable work to replace that lost habitat.
Now where’s your concern at the 4000 miles of new roads which will destroy significantly more woodland and lead to more emissions? Or are you yet another hypocrite?
Arseholery like this when it comes to the rail industry is why it’s in the position it’s in. No focus on government decisions on infrastructure or the fact there’s major storms going on.
Lots of people with tickets on trains to Glasgow for COP26 are now having to book flights instead because of the shambles that is the UK rail network. Highly embarrassing start to the conference.

There were announcements detailing that it was due to an emergency incident. And social media teams also outlines this. The tweet was done hours after it was confirmed. So, in fairness, it is crass and should be taken down with an apology issued.
Really disappointed seeing railway workers liking this.
1) They aren’t allowed to film on-board without permission
2) I’ve twice reported this in the past to control. One after a parent complained that her vulnerable daughter was in the background of a shot.
Out of order.
@AndyBurnhamGM
@AvantiWestCoast
@grantshapps
Yet more pointless political posturing.
1) franchising ended in may 2020
2) Avanti aren’t the problem. Grant Shapps is.
3) Nothing will be fixed until the government pull their finger out and they don’t want to.
Due diligence required Mr Burnham. Challenge Shapps now.
@pipdunn
Whether you like it or not, covid caused a massive backlog in training. Throw in the rightful withdrawal of RDW because of Tory mismanagement and now the same government is apparently asking operators to make cuts…
Also the product CAF delivered was and still is crap.

You’ve literally just given a baseless opinion as fact. I’ve read around the topic and vividly understand the constrains on the current rail network as I work on that rail network.

Preston is a crew change point. More than likely the crew to take the train onwards were stuck north of the original blockade. Would expect someone with your years of dealing with the railway to know that.

So there is no proof just a baseless opinion. Sorry - but the evidence is out there that with HS2 and segregation of services the paths are created to run services.
Husband trying to get enough petrol to get us to Durham to drop daughter to a Uni she's never visited, after exams she never took, rights of passage she never had, work experience she didn't & now struggling to get the girl, who has done everything right, to her place of study!😢

I work in the rail industry and HS2 is the appropriate step forward this country has needed for 50 years. But if you've got another way to increase capacity, enable freight to be moved from HGV's to rail - I'm all ears.
@penny__traitor
Is this the same Michael Byng who is a Director of MBPC? No wonder he doesn't like HS2
Capital projects on which mbpc has worked include:-
The Central Railway plc proposal to reinstate the former Great Central Railway route from Liverpool to Lille as a dedicated freight railway
@Lil_Freya1991
Let’s look at the economies of scale. That tunnel would only require 2 trains with maybe one spare, similar to IOW line. A light rail system would on the bag of a fag picket calculations cost less than a fleet of Tesla that need frequently replacing as most trains last 40 years
@GarethDennis
@philatrail
Apparently there’s been dozens of safety incidents in less than a year. Nobody seriously injured. Means there’s a engineering block on Sunday with no work taking place.
This morning I set out Labour's roadmap to fix Britain's railways.
Labour's plan means delivering a publicly owned railway within five years, putting passengers first, and bringing down costs for taxpayers.
Only Labour has a plan to get Britain moving.

Over 5 million journeys are made by domestic flights between the central belt in Scotland and London. To reduce Carbon, those need to be made by rail the most green form of mass transportation.

Funny how I've heard Network Rail are struggling to fill jobs on projects such as the transpennine route upgrade for works, because of HS2. Because the hours on HS2 are better - almost as if upgrading current lines involves a lot of night time and weekend work in comparison.
@lordofdisorder1

No they won't. The carbon emissions with the production of new EV's is actually greater than reusing old petrol cars. All that mining for raw materials, transporting them worldwide.
HS2's carbon impact overall is one month of the UK's carbon impact. It's not comparable.
@MrAWJLawrence2
It's really not. Hyperloop is not a mass transit system and will not lower the price for travel.
#HS2
has the capacity for over 21,000 people per hour. Hyperloop barely over 3,000.

As it was under Virgin. Rest Day Working has been a common practice since British Rail and has benefitted both staff and TOC's.
