Proud that the Employment Rights Bill has now passed the Commons AND the Lords. The biggest boost to rights at work in a generation. A historic achievement for this Labour Government🌹

The Employment Rights Bill is about to become law. Among the many great changes, a huge win on NDAs: no more using secrecy clauses to silence victims of harassment and discrimination. We only succeeded thanks to years of campaigning by victims and advocates -this is their victory

Short-term cuts create long-term unintended costs. @TheIFS found that benefit cuts in the 2010s pushed more people onto disability support. Better support earlier on would have saved money in the long run. It’s time for smart fair welfare reform that supports people & saves money
NEW: Cuts to non-health-related benefits caused increases in disability benefit claims, our new report finds. 📗 @JCribbEcon, @Heidi_Karj, @LatimerEduin, Sam Ray-Chaudhuri and @TomWatersEcon examine the impact of four cuts to benefits in the 2010s [THREAD:🧵]:

Long shot on here but MISSING CAT! My main man, Abdi, is MIA. If anyone on here is around Norton, Graves Park or Jordanthorpe in Sheffield and sees the big man, please give me a shout. (Put him next to dogs here for scale, but they are also very worried about him).

Wonderful to spend time with @IntakeSchool Council this morning to discuss their concerns about parking and road safety. They had so many good ideas that I'll be taking to the Council on their behalf, thank you!
A big thank you to Louise Hague MP @LouHaigh for coming into Intake Primary to meet with our School Council. She has given her support for our concerns around dangerous parking outside #schoolstreets

By raising revenue from those with the broadest shoulders and putting fairness and opportunity at the heart of its choices, it signals a Labour Govt willing to invest in long-term prosperity, stand with those who work to earn, and break with the damaging austerity of the past 🌹

If followed through, this Budget can mark the beginning of genuine national renewal rather than short-term repair, helping to rebuild the foundations of a fairer, more resilient economy.

I've argued that Britain is trapped in a fiscal straitjacket trying to run a modern economy on machinery not designed to support the Government’s objectives. Today’s measures show Govt is starting to take steps to address this but must go further and deeper in reforms to the OBR.

Ending it is not only morally right – ensuring no child is punished simply for being born into a larger family – it is also economically sensible. Child poverty is expensive, costing the public purse billions through lower attainment, poorer health, and reduced productivity.

And by scrapping the two-child limit it will lift 450,000 children out of poverty This cruel and counterproductive policy has been the single biggest driver of rising child poverty, affecting 1.6 million children in 450,000 families – one in nine children across the UK.

By taxing wealth, assets, and unearned income more fairly, while protecting working people from further rises in personal taxation, she has set out a progressive, credible approach rooted in Labour values and economic reality, showing clearly who this Government stands up for.

Not sure I've ever said this before, but here goes.... I agree with William Hague (On the OBR points, not the rest) https://t.co/DGVbeozYWb

Once the Budget is delivered, it’s time for a root and branch review of the OBR. Constantly shifting the fiscal goal posts cuts across long term action to grow our economy and boost living standards.

The OBR should be involved earlier in policy-making, publish assessments beyond the five-year forecast and model long-term savings and productivity from social investment. As I argued in the @NewStatesman

This government was elected to transform the country. We can only do that by rewriting the rules that bind us.

Important intervention from @The_TUC The OBR is an important, independent check but this down-to-the-wire negotiation doesn't work for enormous fiscal decisions. https://t.co/EaI0C7KT9d

Today I received a response to my campaign to protect children in the family courts from domestic abusers and sex offenders. This is a huge step forward, thanks to the bravery of survivors and campaigners who never gave up. I’m proud to have played a part in making it happen

Nearly a year on from the ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon, Israeli forces continue to breach it - including attacks on UN peacekeepers at the weekend. Today in Parliament, I asked what the UK is doing to support #Lebanon and its Armed Forces at this critical time
