Call your State Senator and Assembly Member TODAY and demand they stand firm for congestion pricing. Hochul is trying to get them to cover the huge hole she blew in the MTA budget. Script:
Mad that
@GovKathyHochul
has done a 180 on congestion pricing, wasting over a decade of progress & sticking NYers with delays, chaos & pollution?

Two months out, this is the lowest one-way
@Amtrak
fare NYC-BOS for 2 adults+2 kids the day before Thanksgiving. We desperately need a regional transit policy that's not "everybody can just drive!"
Wow. Philadelphia will offer to buy SEPTA passes for all of its ~25,000 city employees, who will pay nothing out of pocket to ride transit.
Seems like a smart way to boost ridership while strengthening transit agencies' precarious finances.
@uppereastsiteny
@Amtrak
I'm saying that our regional transit policy is gouging families who don't own a car (most families in NYC) with 10x fares on the most popular travel days, guaranteeing that those who drive will face horrific traffic. We need more train service on peak days!
The NYPD found video of the driver who assaulted me, but couldn’t get the plate number, never found him. Driver had one of these illegal plate covers. Baffling that NYPD doesn’t ticket/tow vehicles with these.
Hey
@dunkindonuts
. Your delivery truck not only exceeds the legal length limit on NYC streets, it's also totally obstructing a busy crosswalk at Manhattan & Bedford Ave in Greenpoint.
Surely there's a better way to refill the pumpkin spice reserves in dense urban areas...
One of the nurses treating my injuries said that if I had touched his car he probably would have done the same. Drivers in NYC get away with murder and countless lesser infractions all the time — many think they're literally untouchable. 9/
“I don’t see an ending to this. This issue will DESTROY New York City," Mayor Adams says in some dire comments about the migrants coming to New York City. "The city we knew, we're about to lose."
Civil servants such as NYPD officers, firefighters and teachers will have to pay the $15 toll to enter Manhattan's congestion pricing zone just like all other drivers, a key MTA report obtained by Gothamist reveals.
Today I reported to 311 a car parked in a No Standing spot with Illinois plates, and another car with expired temp plates — NYPD responded that they wouldn't do anything. They'd rather wait for another tragedy like this.
This vehicle was illegally registered in Illinois but has been driving around NYC since 2021.
If the NYPD enforced the law, this car would've been off the road a long time ago.
I'm lucky — I could have been one of the 47 people killed in NYC traffic violence since Jan 1. But I learned a hard lesson — never again will I confront a driver in person about illegal parking. I've gotten death threats over 311 complaints, but this is way worse. 8/
.
@NYCTSubway
your van is parked on the island that allows turning vehicles to see pedestrians & bikes, again. Is today the day you’ll get someone killed? 8th av/9th st Bklyn
Charging the the young man who assaulted me, even if I had evidence, wouldn't make streets much safer. Things that WILL make us safer are solid protection for bikes and pedestrians, and enforcing the rules on where cars can go. Then stupid conflicts like this wouldn't happen. 10/
I wouldn't be in this ridiculous conflict if the
@NYPD78Pct
cared to stop this driver from parking in the bus stop year-round. Tell your Council member we need to take parking enforcement away from the NYPD.
A Brooklyn man shoveled snow onto a truck blocking a bus stop, filed a
@nyc311
complaint about the truck to
@NYPDnews
, and included his contact information on the report. Within hours he was getting death threats from someone who knew his name and number.
From now on I won't make a peep about driver behavior when I'm on the street. BUT, I'm going to do everything I can to support laws and policies that will make streets safer for everyone, and take away drivers' opportunities to hurt and kill us. 11/
DON'T EVER DO THIS! Many drivers think that touching their car justifies any level of violence in retaliation. The driver and his friend chased me for about 5 blocks, running lights. Finally ran me onto the sidewalk, in another spot where the bike lane was unprotected. 5/
Hi
@NYCTSubway
, your employee has parked on this pedestrian island at 9 St / 8 Av every night this week w/ MTA vest on dash. Please remind them this is dangerous for peds/bikes!
All over Paris car parking spaces are being upgraded to plots for trees and micro gardens - cooling the city, cleaning the air & making the streets more pleasant for people - thanks to the vision & tenacity of city's mayor...
The NYPD gave chase 304 times in the first three months of 2023, a nearly 600% jump from the same period last year, according to an analysis of vehicle pursuit calls
@THECITYNY
conducted from NYPD 911 data.
More here:
Imagine painting over most of the numbers and letters on your license plate. And then putting an NYPD placard on your dash so everyone knows who did it. Cops fear no consequences here.
Yellow paint has been applied to illegally alter this
@nysdmv
license plate. Front plate is removed. Expired
@NYPD73Pct
placard.
Whoever is involved with this fraud should be prosecuted. No way should they be trusted to work in law enforcement.
Don't you agree,
@NYCMayor
?
Yesterday a person was killed in a serious crash on Ocean Parkway. One vehicle involved was a Tesla with 21 school zone speeding tickets -- half of them issued on the same stretch of roadway as the crash
Two kind NYers came along & helped me — one returned the CitiBike, and the other rode in a cab with me to Methodist Hospital, where I got stitches, CAT scans, and a cast for my broken leg. 7/
I got off the CitiBike on the sidewalk to try to take a photo of the car that ran me off the road. Another mistake. One of the passengers jumped out of the car and charged me. Next thing I knew I was lying on the sidewalk, bleeding and disoriented. 6/
It would be so easy to ticket this car parked for more than an hour in a busy crosswalk. I file a
@nyc311
complaint, NYPD responds in 2 min: "This complaint does not fall under the Police Department's jurisdiction." What are we paying $8 billion for?
Came to a car parked in the bike lane, which is only "protected" by paint for much of the area btw 1st and 6th Streets. Dark license plate cover to fool speed cameras/tolls, talking to another driver in the parking lane. I should have ridden out into traffic to get by, but... 3/
"car commuting is so prevalent among gov't workers ... that the MTA estimated in its enviro. assessment that simply reducing the number of gov't-supplied free-parking permits wld achieve the congestion-reduction goals of congestion pricing—w/o congestion pricing."
@nicolegelinas
No picture of NY:KWN2101 because of too many people around, and the driver in the car, but when you’re missing half your front bumper, you have the cloak of invisibility vest on your dash plus front & back NYPD stickers, you look sketchy AF.
What’s the story
@HowsMyDrivingNY
In case anyone wants to see the raw numbers. For some violations, the consistent lack of enforcement is really telling.
@illegal53NYC
is improving but seeing as there are hundreds on our streets everyday in plain sight…excessive noise…excuse me‽
A South Slope linen supply company has riled neighbors with a controversial rezoning pitch: Arrow Linen has proposed development that would tower over the block — 13 stories in a neighborhood known for row houses — in a bid to create new housing
I made a bad decision – I yelled at the driver for parking in the bike lane, and tried to fold in his side mirror to squeeze by. Mirror was stiff, I couldn't budge it, so I squeezed around and kept riding. 4/
I’m not as brave as
@adamlaw50
, I didn’t peel the tape off this defaced plate but I did report it to
@nyc311
20 minutes ago. Will
@NYPD78Pct
take action?
In the Park Slope Historic District, there are astronomically unaffordable apartments, great transit options, and several open-air parking lots that could be turned into housing.
I'm guilty of periodically falling prey to the idea that "there is no more space" but I need to continually remind myself there is space for millions more in NYC.
If just 3 blocks could add homes for 4.6k we can easily address our housing shortage
Predicable consequence of
@NYCMayor
issuing thousands of parking placards and reducing other transit options during the pandemic. Drivers aren’t getting anywhere tonight.
NYPD car chases put us all at risk — if these cars are stored in the city, do cops ever use their huge surveillance network to just go there and make the arrest safely?
Mets starter Joey Lucchesi said he was the victim of a car crash after a driver being chased by police slammed into his Uber
Those chases are up ‘massively,’ per
@THECITYNY
The “renter who can’t charge their car at home” demographic describes a giant share of the populations of most large American cities.
The assumption is, this problem resolves itself. But it does not. In fact, it has no practical/simple solution.
Tragedy in my neighborhood. This is why I keep filing 311 reports on 9th St, but it's not enough. When DOT and NYPD don't care about safe streets, people die.
We have just heard from neighbors that a cyclist was tragically killed at the intersection of 2nd Ave and 9th St. The intersection is now blocked off, and our office is in touch with the
@NYPD78Pct
and
@NYC_DOT
. We will share more details when we have them. Please stay safe.
Add to the list of electeds
@NYCMayor
very publicly dislikes:
@LincolnRestler
. Asked about the reversal on the McGuinness redesign, the mayor asks who the councilmember is — an answer he likely knew.
Unbelievable! Scooter is in a legal spot, taking up the minimum space, gets a ticket for “wrong way”. Meanwhile MTA van parked in bus stop all day on this block, no ticket. What’s the deal
@NYC_DOT
? Cops trying to kill this transportation option?
@StreetsblogNYC
@NYCTSubway
@nyc311
Thank you for the response. I don’t think you’ll be able to do much, until NYC leaders tell court employees they need to park in a garage or take the train. It’s been like this for years.
Blackout tinted windshield, no front plate, rear plate obscured, parked in the intersection. Can’t wait for
@StephenLevin33
’s Intro 2159 to pass so we can do something about corruption NYPD ignores!
@placardabuse
Crowded platform at Jay St. this AM, only one not wearing any face covering is this cop.
@NYCTSubway
can we get NYPD out of the subway until they can follow the rules?
@nypdmaskwatch
@bkabak
I ride the subway with my kids to school, but I guess if I bought a car and drove them instead we’d get way more time together sitting in traffic!
Hey imagine vandalizing your own license plate in order to steal tolls, parking a block from the precinct, and then putting your own name and phone number on your dashboard like this detective did.
@NYPD13Pct
, maybe you should give him a call.
After hearing from
@jalexa1218
and others in Clinton Hill, I rushed over to see if
@nypd88pct
really had STOLEN a
@NYCParks
facility from neighborhood kids. It's TRUE!
@CMCrystalHudson
says cops were concerned about protests, but all they've done is give locals a cause for anger.
How quick would ex-cop Eric Adams have arrested kids who attached their signs to MTA property like this? He’s gonna crack down on graffiti—but when his pal Ydanis does it...
Fill out this survey on mobility in NYC Parks — I learned something about vehicle categories! I commented that we should get Parks workers and NYPD out of cars and into e-bikes.
.
@NYCTSubway
, when you park these large vehicles in the pedestrian island, turning drivers can’t see pedestrians and bikers. 9th st/8th av Bklyn, F/G train.
@NYCComptroller
Great idea except for the angled parking spots! NYC needs fewer cars for a sustainable future, and gradual, steady reduction of free car storage on public streets is part of the solution.
The
@HolidayInn
@ 300 Schermerhorn allows their employees to misuse the bike lane as a private parking lot.
The
@NYC_DOT
could add a couple bollards to put an end to this abuse.
.
@NYCTSubway
your van and these two regular
@placardabuse
vehicles have completely blocked the bus stop on 9th st/8th av in Bklyn. Bus is running, but no way to get on it.
@IdaBahillo
@Naparstek
@_elkue
Yes! Especially since NYPD has millions of dollars of surveillance equipment and NYC has cameras everywhere. No reason to for high-speed chases that kill bystanders!
These deaths are preventable, but NYPD isn’t trying. Today I reported 4 parked cars with covered or missing plates, no response in 1.5 hours. No plates=no accountability for reckless driving.
Another fatality on a road we already know to be dangerous, and another fatality due to reckless driving.
We can’t fix Atlantic Ave fast enough, and we need a hell of a lot more accountability for drivers who speed and run red lights.
Brooklyn Dem boss Rodneyse Bichotte-Hermelyn is here saying she understands the need for safety, but also the need to keep traffic flowing and the economy going
.
@BeaconTheatre
so dangerous that your crew put up this barricade sending bikes into rush-hour traffic! There’s room for a safe detour — please fix before someone gets hurt!
The curb lane here is reserved for
@NYPDnews
parking. They decided to just illegally take over the sidewalk too.
This perp has an illegal license plate cover, missing front plate, and defaced

registration sticker that can't be scanned.

90 days until most important election of my life. Sending $ today to

Hi
@NYCParks
your employee parked on the pedestrian island at 9th st/ 8th av to get a cup of coffee. Truck backed in behind him, blocked protected lane my kids use to bike to the park. Please tell employees not to do this!

tenant protections now!
Thanks for this! Wonder if it would help to clarify message: if around 50 Caban affidavit voters were ppl who registered or changed party to Dem right at deadline and BoE didn’t process on time, that could put her over the top, even if most affidavits are invalid.
Celebrate July 4th by giving to
@CabanForQueens
to cover the legal cost of protecting democracy in Queens.
The Queens BOE Commissioner is refusing to count ~2,300 affidavit ballots in this CLOSE race.

Mayor Adam's crackdown, etc.:
Hi
@NYCTSubway
driver of this truck with an illegal license plate cover parked in bike lane and bus stop 9th st and 8th av bk said he’s working for you, was quite rude. Could you do something?
.
@NYCTSubway
please remind your employees: daylighting islands on 9th St aren’t free parking, they’re to keep pedestrians and bikers safe from turning drivers!
@rgay
It’s one way — round trip is well over $1000 for a 200 mile trip! Train travel between two major cities that close together shouldn’t way more than driving or flying, if we’re serious about climate change.
.
@NYPD78Pct
your officer argued with me that they used their “discretion” to not ticket a car with a covered plate. Here’s the official word — those cars should be towed!
If you cover your license plate, you are subject to having the vehicle ticketed and towed.
So far in 2023, the Transportation Bureau has issued 130,557 tickets for covered license plates, & towed away 1,263 of these vehicles
If
@NYCMayor
finds this “disturbing,” he can direct cops to ticket/boot every vehicle parked in crosswalks or bus stops, starting now. This whole mess never would have happened if NYPD cared about street safety.
Streetsblog gets (re)action: After
@Jesse_Coburn
reported on a Park Slope man who was harassed after reporting to 311 an illegally parked truck,
@NYCMayorsOffice
condemned the incident, but declined to say if it will reform how NYPD handles 311 calls:
Wild that govt employees park illegally near Borough Hall when 9 subway lines go there. Traffic is bad, they’d probably get to work quicker on the subway! Give them free MetroCards, or they can pay to park in a garage, give us our public space back!
