95% of NYC's street parking is free. We must rectify this public space giveaway & implement demand-responsive/dynamic parking. Hourly rates would rise or fall depending on the vacancy of each block. More open spots = cheaper rates. NYC stands to raise more than $1 BILLION.

@BobHoldenNYC @NYC_DOT . @JulieMenin intro would require curb extensions for at least 5 intersections/borough/year. We love curb extensions - yay! But 5/borough/year is 😭 @NYC_DOT should daylight every intersection, install bollards ASAP, and do curb extensions expeditiously

“The cost of parking is being put onto renters...low-income renters are less likely to own a car so they are basically subsidizing the cost of parking for higher income people.” We're in @politico talking parking mandates & why NYC must lift them citywide

. @sabinathegreat 's internship focused on #schoolstreets - the shockingly low amount of them, what's working, what's not. Her report has great recs, for communities & @NYC_DOT , to get this incredibly valuable program into MANY more schools. Check it out ➡️

It costs HOW MUCH to build one underground parking spot?! And to think -- NYC is requiring that many, many of these $150,000 spots be built in new buildings. Parking mandates have got to go, citywide.

Thank you @CMCrystalHudson for recognizing the crisis on our streets & calling for the changes we know will work. There is no "both sides" to taking action that will save New Yorkers' lives. There's doing it, or not doing it & allowing tragedies to happen.

Robert Moses molded NYC into a car-centric city that devalued community space & further solidified racist systems. The City has since recognized the Moses era's harmful impacts & have reversed many policies. We need to address parking minimums next.

The volunteers running Open Streets are spending their own time & money to keep these public spaces afloat. Enough! Saturday, May 6-- tell the City they must provide the funding & support needed to maintain Open Streets, unburden volunteers & serve NYers in all 5 boroughs.

Some proposed new rules to Open Streets could make the program even more burdensome for the volunteers keeping these popular public spaces afloat. We need less hoops to jump through, not more. Submit a comment or RSVP to testify at a hearing tomorrow ⤵️
