Oxytocin isn’t just the “love hormone”: it helps wire the brain’s metabolic circuits! 🧠 In our new @PLOSBiology study, we show that OT neurons guide the postnatal development of POMC and AgRP pathways that control energy balance

The melanocortin circuit of the hypothalamus is crucial for regulating energy balance, but the development of this circuit is incompletely understood. This study in mice shows that activity and...

I feel like crap. I didn’t get any grants this year, so I had to let go of my super talented postdoc—someone with a doctorate who’s now unemployed, without benefits or retirement, and still grinding away on a paper... Postdocs are the most unappreciated and undervalued positions

Our newest preprint! Work led by Ben Dykstra (co-mentored by @gordonberman). Some of the first recordings from the iCA3 region during social behaviors. Ben found that iCA3 neurons more strongly represent social recognition information relative to iCA1 .

Using a cognitive bias paradigm, researchers in Science demonstrate positive affective contagion—a core component of empathy—in bumble bees. The discovery shows that even insects can share affective states, tracing the roots of affect and social cognition deep into evolution.

Just in case any one is wondering: Biomedical scientists spend an average of 12 years in training before reaching an independent position. That is more than most medical residences.
