For every fellowship I got I had example successful apps to see because my network is large. Not everyone has that privilege. I share my success apps with anyone, even if I don't know you. DM me if you need an example app for a K99, FWIS L'Oreal, pre and postdoc Ford, BWF PDEP

felt very different. First lab poster, first SfN talk as faculty and first time attending as a mom.
I did less science-ing than usual and feel more tired than usual, but I’m grateful that I could come and blend life and work.
Curious about how the brain allows us to navigate our social world? Excited to use mouse models, lasers, ML, and ephys to figure it out? Be a pioneer and come join me in my new lab! I will pour my heart and soul into your scientific training and mentoring.
The world needs science and science needs women. It is an amazing honor to be selected as a L'Oreal For Women in Science 2020 Fellow. I am immensely proud to be the first Puerto Rican to get this award.

I am thrilled to share my 1st review as a corresponding author. Together with grad student
@MaddieDwortz
and Drs. Kay Tye and James Curley
@kaymtye
@jalapic
we review what neuroscience has revealed about social dominance and how its represented in the brain across species 1/3
Finally happy to unveil my postdoctoral paper on its final form, done under the guidance of
@kaymtye
and in colab with
@BatraKanha

A few highlights:
-A new dominance assay for mice
-A new tool, AlphaTracker, to track multiple animals

Grad school application season is here. To students out there thinking that they are not good enough for X school: do not let others limit you.
When I was applying to grad school a Dean told me that my GRE score was SO bad that my application was going to be filtered out. 1/3
And just like that its been 1 year since my lab opened
@UFNeuroscience
There has been so many lessons for me as a

📢My lab is looking for a new lab tech!! Come join us if you want excellent mentorship and want to avoid cold winters and expensive cities. If interested fill out
I am a postdoc at MIT today because Dr. Gregory Quirk decided to do the unthinkable and started a lab in a small island with very little neuroscience or research. Having him at my instituion changed my life.
Create opportunities and you will change lives.
2 months into the asst professor job. So much to do but many victories to celebrate
-I have people who like working with each other
-We have equipment in benches (non functional yet)
-Animal protocol approved
-I have the most supportive chair
@JenBizon
, I'm serious the best 1/n
I am so honored to be the inaugural Henry Grass Rising Star Fellow. Thank you so much to the
@grassfoundation
and to Dr. Henry Grass for creating this award.
I'm designing an academia 101 course. Think of the unspoken things we have picked up as we grow up in science like how publishing works, getting funding, networking, conferences, societies, what jobs exist. What do you wish you knew sooner?
Today we highlight the lab of Dr. Nancy Padilla-Coreano, who investigates how brain circuits interact in navigating complex social dynamics and how this ability is disrupted in psychiatric and neurological disorders.

Today I came full circle. I had a great time visiting my alma mater
@uprrp
& speaking to the next generation of Puerto Rican Neuroscientists about the exciting world of social rank and computational neuroscience!
Super thrilled to receive this grant to push the boundaries of how we measure social behaviors by considering physiological rhythms.
I am recruiting a postdoc to contribute to this collaborative grant. DM me if interested.
Amidst all the cuts in Brain Initiative funding, we are nervous to announce but thrilled to receive this NIH Brain Initiative R34 grant, together with
@DrNancyPadilla
and
@DanWesson_
, to develop methods to understand social behaviors from multimodal data!
Dear
#womeninSTEM
how do you fight the urges of wanting to by liked?
We are socialize that way and I find I waste immense energy on it at the cost of my research progress.
In honor of our 50th (!!!) profile, we interviewed our founder Dr. Nancy Padilla Coreano (

I am so proud of my trainees and of their hard work to create the lab's first two posters which will be presented this Friday at
@S4SNeuro

super proud of this lab milestone
I'm thinking of asking my mentees to write confidential letters of recs for me as a mentor. We write letters for schools and others to judge them, but why don't they have a confidential system to evaluate potential mentors? Future grad students, would this be helpful for you?
Interview season is coming up. Some humble advice for prospective grad students:
Practice the following:
1) Practice your elevator pitch: who you are, what you have done and what is your goal
2) Practice explaining your past research with people outside of your field

This is the time of the year when many great students get rejected or waitlisted from grad schools. Can you share your story of rejection or of being waitlisted? Students need to hear them to feel hopeful.
Science is FULL of rejection, grad school is just the beginning.
Im incredibly proud to have a mentor who uses her science platform to speak up for social justice.
@kaymtye
started her virtual seminar today by showing support for
#BLM
and showing important data on police brutality.
Are you a postdoc doing systems or behavioral neuroscience and looking for opportunities to review papers? Let me know so I recommend you when a relevant paper lands in my inbox. I am overwhelmed with requests to review manuscripts.
For neuroscience, social history matters. Were your mice ever isolated or are they group housed and therefore have hierarchies? Find out how that matters in this piece by
@AnneGeorge0912
@maya_opendak
and myself
Remind me, why do we review manuscripts for free? We get honorariums for giving talks, because our time is valuable... why do we do this for free for the journals?? Personally, I don't think getting an honorarium would compromise the reviewing system.
I am so happy and honored to be selected as a postdoctoral fellow for the Ford Foundation
@NASEMFordFellow
Can't wait to meet other ford fellows in our annual conference next fall!
Special thanks to my advisor
@kaymtye
for her support in getting this award.

1. Discoveries over impact factor when planning projects/exps
2. Go back to the classic old literature often to learn and avoid mistakes.
3. When collaborating: people over papers
"It is the responsibility of all of us to overcome historical racial injustices and fully diversify our labs and departments" -Dr. Gregory Quirk

I've been thinking about actionable items to advocate at the institutional/program level that would make grad school more equitable. The 1st one in my mind is moving expense stipends for incoming grads. Is there anyone out there that has this in their program? How does it work?
Prospective grad students check out the amazing resources in the

I was so discouraged but luckily I had submitted the app when he told me this, so it was too late. I ended up getting invited to all the schools I applied, because I was more than my GPA and GRE scores. I ended up going the school with that Dean and 2 yrs later he emailed me. 1/2
