What are the priorities for #endometriosis care in the UK? Number 1 is diagnosis Statistics suggest 1 in 10 women have endo - however this should say at least 1 in 10 Unfortunately diagnosis still takes on average 8 years. How we improve this? Increase awareness & education👇

The phrase ‘benign gynaecology’ is frequently used in the NHS as medical shorthand to refer to gynaecological conditions that are not cancers. New polling shows that benign is understood as meaning ‘not serious’ or ‘harmless’, which does not represent the patient experience.

The NHS waiting list doesn’t need more surgeons it needs more capacity. There are surgeons all over the UK with one shared list per week. Maybe even one shared list per fortnight. They can operate much more than that but there aren’t the theatres, wards, ICU and nursing.

Number 2 is capacity We need more funding and we need to be a national and local priority. Womens health (non cancer) does not bring in as much funding for trusts when compared to specialities such as urology and cancer services- hence less priorty, funding, access to tech.…

What are the priorities for #endometriosis care in the UK? Number 1 is diagnosis Statistics suggest 1 in 10 women have endo - however this should say at least 1 in 10 Unfortunately diagnosis still takes on average 8 years. How we improve this? Increase awareness & education👇

True this - many male colleagues are praised for their assertivenes... Many female colleagues (me included) hold back for fear of being called aggressive or argumentative.... fair? #MedEd #MedTwitter #LeadershipMatters

A few endometriosis/menopause facts: a 🧵 Endo symptoms might improve after the menopause, however a large number of women still experience symptoms after natural and surgical menopause. Symptoms may worsen with the use of HRT particularly oestrogen.

Shall we just say it one more time - endometriosis can occur after the menopause. Menopause is not a cure #Myth_Vs_Fact #endometriosis #menopause Really important to be vigilant of symptoms particularly if on HRT

Fellow obstetricians/midwives etc- thoughts on this? My thoughts - LSCS rates should be essentially ignored. When we have targets maternal choice and maternal/neonatal outcomes suffer. @myobstetrician @susannacrowe @doctorrah @tonykellyuk @DOckendenLtd @JamesTitcombe @rob_buist

@AmyLaskyMD i hate that term "denied"! it is a patient centred discussion and no one should "denied" treatment if it is an informed decision and not causing harm. #patientchoice

Shame on you @NICEComms . Agreeing that healthcare professionals can offer pseudoscientific pain relief to women in labour is nothing short of a scandal. Shame on you. New NICE intrapartum guidelines 1/

Just spotted this on the @RCObsGyn trainees eportfolio 👇👇 An option to tick senior SAS dr - important acknowledgment that in O&G we have huge numbers of SAS doctors in senior roles providing training and education and it shouldn't be just a consultant sign-off 👏
