“Pet” peeve: Signs in tree boxes “no poop or pee, keep off the grass!” I get it, some ppl people don’t clean up. But tree boxes belong to the city, not homeowners. These signs aren’t actually allowed or enforceable. The more ya know!
An example of lack of DC gov planning:
Native plant garden on Georgia Ave (at Pizza Hut) planted by
@DCDPR
,
#PetworthBlooms
& paid for by community donations was just weed whacked by a DPR vendor, removing the native plants & replacing with... mulch?
@CMLewisGeorgeW4
@ANC4C
Very cool.
@VP
Kamala Harris dropped by

Here's how it all went down, and info on the show!
After 32 years working for
@USPS
and 22 years as a mail carrier in Petworth, Darryl is retiring. A wonderful, dependable and awesome guy, he’ll be missed in the neighborhood! People like Darryl help make a neighborhood a great place to be.
There are many vacant properties on Kennedy St NW. Some owned by Charles Paret & Coloma River company. Some are more than vacant, they are blighted, but are not being charged the required tax rate. These blighted buildings negatively impact the community.
Today I introduced a bill to require the Mayor to issue a motor vehicle ID tag with the legend "End Gun Violence." The license plate serves to raise awareness about gun violence, encourage action against it and fund services to support victims of crime.

Heard 3 gunshots tonight, then saw 2 people leaving the scene. Called 911 and was on hold for almost 8 minutes.
8 minutes.
Good thing I wasn’t calling about a heart attack, fire or known injury. Disappointing. Scary.
@MayorBowser
, you &
@OUC_DC
must do better.
Heartbroken to share that Cesse Ip (
@CheeseCip

Latest good news:
@timberpizzaco
opened up for pick up and delivery. Tues-Sun 12-8. Only 4 pizzas & 1 salad (cheese, pepperoni, Bentley & Green Monster, Darryl salad). Check their website for details. (Note: sidewalk is taped off at 6 foot intervals.)

Cesse Ip passed away on August 24th. She was a devoted mom and wife, an advocate for her community and her children's school, and she unfairly was not given enough time. She will most definitely be missed.

"The core DC value of being a welcoming city is undermined by housing prices that systematically push people out and keep people out," writes

So
@EleanorNorton
just followed me and I’m pretty sure it’s not because I’m witty, it’s because people keep getting shot. Once every 4 days there’s been gun violence.
Petworth needs help.
This amazing man is St Anthony Wallace Sr. He runs the 8th & Taylor

People like St Anthony help make the community better.

@ABC7News

Changes keep coming to Upshur. In this case, a piece of the past is returning after almost 20 years. "Flowers by Alexes" is hoping to open by the end of January & is selling bouquets / arrangements online now.
Watching the Ward 4 Dems Councilmember Candidate forum.

Massive crime spree today in Petworth! 🤯
“Police are looking for several teens in a gray Cadillac-DC tags. They have been involved in about 6 street robberies … Webster St, 7th St, Spring Rd, etc. So many that 4D needs detectives from other police districts.”

So I though I heard 2 gunshots and was like WTH? Turns out — it’s fireworks.
Almost a foot of snow, DCPS is closed on Monday and someone is out at almost 11pm shooting fireworks. Fireworks.💥

I’m beyond frustrated that

won’t give teachers time to completely vaccinated.
@DCPSChancellor
acts like Covid is just a normal flu and not responsible for many many deaths of loved ones.
Petworth needs a Main Street designation to help existing businesses, especially minority, immigrant and women-owned ones, and encourage new businesses to flourish.
Now,

DC MISSING TEEN: Brian Ward, 18, has been missing from Petworth for over a year now. His parents tell me they're heartbroken and extremely worried. They say Brian loves his family, has never been in trouble, and it's extremely unlike him to not be in contact

Celebrating with

Car jacking at the Exxon at Kansas & Georgia Ave this morning at 11am. Two men with handguns approached a person at the station & took his property and car. Thankfully the victim is ok but wow.
Petworth Ace has reopened today after being closed due to an overnight burglary. They’re a great business in the neighborhood and contribute to community events. Hope they catch the thieves and glad everyone is safe.
Update: So

Sad to share that former
