It's a beautiful thing. And now it's time to get beverage bottles and cans out of the river.

Great article last week showing efforts like DC’s bag bill have worked to reduce trash. In DC, it led to 72% fewer bags showing up as trash in the Anacostia River & 60-80% reduction in single use bags at stores. $ generated goes back into river cleanup.

I love Ward 1 Pool Day! It was great catching up with neighbors and handing out ice pops on a very hot day. Data point: blue is a very popular flavor! If you entered the raffle for Nats tickets you’ll hear from us soon!

Additional concerns include the Pay Equity Fund and educator wellness grants. Continued underfunding of these critical programs would have serious consequences. I will work to make sure we are doing everything possible to advance equity & expand opportunities for families.

LAYC supports low-income youth at four schools, including Cardozo in Ward 1, through wraparound services like truancy prevention, college & career readiness, case management & individualized interventions. I am working with the Chairman & my colleagues to find this funding.

But there is still critical work to be done. We need at least $2.48 million to restore the Community Schools program, and $4.5 million to expand it. Community Schools provide vital support services through trusted community partners like the Latin American Youth Center.

We're taking steps to uphold our commitment to educators on H-1B visas. And we're investing in Bancroft Annex project, in experimental learning opportunities, and in support for expectant and parenting students.

We're prioritizing equity, student wellbeing, and the educators that lift our students up in the Committee of the Whole budget report. But there are still detrimental gaps in the Mayor’s proposed budget that we need to fix.

Time for some trash talk! Keeping our city clean & livable was a huge priority for me as we put together our Cmte on Public Works & Operation budget recommendations. We're achieving that goal by adding 250 litter & recycling cans, expanding public restrooms & composting & more.

I'll keep working with my colleagues on the Council to make sure that we are adequately supporting new housing production to address our affordability challenges in the District, especially when there has been so much discussion about slowing housing construction.

The Housing Committee's budget, which we voted on yesterday, ensures that the Home Assistance Purchase Program can benefit even more families, includes a critical increase to the Emergency Housing Assistance Program, and invests funds to create & maintain affordable housing.
