OUC works collaboratively with providers to continue to improve emergency communications. During a visit with members of the AT&T FirstNet & Public Sector Solutions team, our IT team had the opportunity to discuss best practices and lead them on a tour of our facility.

Last week, our Heroes in Headsets received 18,917 calls for service for police, fire, and EMS, and handled 88 text-to-911 sessions with 96.68% of calls answered in 20 seconds or less. #WeAnswerTheCall

This week, the participants of the OUC Junior Academy had the privilege of visiting the @DCPoliceDept Harbor Patrol Unit to learn more about the work of this incredible team, entrusted with patrolling all of the rivers, inlets, and waterways of the District.

Yesterday, OUC hosted the Fall cohort of the @DCPoliceDept Community Engagement Academy. During their visit, participants learned about new and emerging technologies in 911 and took a mock version of our CritiCall exam to learn more about what it takes to be a 911 call taker.

In FY25, this incredible team fulfilled 18,480 requests (the highest number of requests received in a fiscal year) within mandated time frames, 100% of the time. The achievement was an almost 32% increase from the previous year and a performance record!

OUC's Transcription Unit is a small but mighty team vital to agency success. They are responsible for the authentication of 911 calls and providing documentation for court proceedings for a multitude of public safety partners and clients like the Assistant US Attorney and OAG.

Learning how and when to call 911 in an emergency is a life skill that's never too early to learn! It was an absolute treat to visit some of our youngest residents at Capitol Hill Day School this week and teach them how they too can be 911 heroes.
