Having one person in a lab at a time is NOT social distancing folks. The virus lives for at least 3 days on a hard surface, so shared facilities like microscopes, keyboards etc. have to be completely cleaned between users. Don't put your staff and trainees at risk. Just stop.

Turns out CT scans can detect COVID-19 about 5 days before RT-PCR and show improvements about 6 days before RT-PCR is negative. 97% specificity. You have to think if CT is that good, MRI could be even better? Decon between patients is an issue for imaging.

Despite cancer and 3 surgeries, this brave woman has done more to support Canadian researchers by advocacy than her entire party. I am in awe.
After recovering from my 3rd surgery in 3 months, I have started climbing the mountain again. My focus remains with those who hurt and their families. Today I can stand, walk a few steps with the walker and work on ballet arms. Hoping for a better tomorrow for all.

The key thing about the DIANA method is u need a lot of trials. Over 2000 stimulus presentations in this work. For humans, u need more lines of k-space, so maybe 5000 trials. Plus CNR is much worse in awake humans, so 10x more averaging. So 50,000 trials.

Fantastic 🧵. I got a preview of this at the Yale Whistler meeting in February. The next time someone tells me that fMRI hasn't taught us anything new about the brain, I'm going to refer them to this paper.
We used data from single individuals, large-N group averages, children, infants, neonates, stroke patients, and macaques, including resting fMRI, task fMRI, diffusion, and structure, to map primary motor cortex in exquisite detail. We were surprised at what we found!

And here's the downer part, because it's not all unicorn and rainbows. This lady and one of her daughters (mom's twin) both committed suicide. My own mother spent a year in a VGH psych ward in her mid 80's. Their successes and legacies came at huge costs. Support women. Everyday.

Maybe this is why Jean Chrétien (who just had a birthday) was the only Canadian PM to ever believe in science. He had kin who did science. Knowing his daughter France, I know this appreciation of science and how it can elevate a nation was deeply ingrained.
