For example, to study the radio source MG J0751+2716, (11.7 billion light-years from Earth!), astronomers used the "lens" of a group of galaxies 3.9 billion light-years from Earth. (3/4)

By observing how radio emission from the distant source is bent by the gravitational field of another massive object – the lens – located between the source and the Earth, it is possible to determine information about both the distant source and the lens. (2/4)

There are several different telescopes on the Green Bank Observatory grounds. Pictured here is the 20-meter telescope, which is used for receiver testing and as an education telescope. The 20-meter telescope arrived as a guest at our site in 1994. (1/5) ⤵️ 📸 Credit: Bob Bird

They say teamwork makes the dream work 🔭 This image of the Squid Galaxy combines data from @Chandreaxray, @NASAHubble, @NASAWebb, and @TheNRAO’s Very Large Array! It's only about 1/3 the size of our galaxy but contains a supermassive black hole that’s 2x the size of ours!

Hard to believe it's already been 2 years since the #ngVLA prototype antenna was first unveiled at mtex in Germany! Since then, the panels have been installed, the dish lifted onto its pedestal, and the antenna was officially handed over to the NRAO. (1/2)
