Depicting female politicians as witches is another way of trying to force us back into a box. We're shrill, malign, emotional etc. This undertone is present in the national media regularly (the cartoon today just a very blatant and disappointing example).

It is difficult to see how €21.80 worth of cannabis merits the court and Garda effort involved here. We need to move away from drugs policy approach weighted so heavily toward criminal justice to one focused on harm reduction.

Transgender people exist. Kids are compassionate and accepting. Actively hiding the existence of some people is deeply odd. My kids have dealt with disability, chronic illness, etc etc before the age of ten with grace and humour. Cause that's life. Don't lie to your children.

This is an extraordinary action by Trinity College and brings the organisation into disrepute. Financial loses? Student protests are historically a hugely important part of public debate and this is a very serious attack on free speech. It's a place of learning not a business.

This is just plain wrong. Grown adults who make the decision to harass and intimidate the most vulnerable among us are responsible for their own actions. No failures in the system (and there are many) gives permission for a lack of compassion and decency in how we treat others.
The blockade at a hotel housing asylum seekers in Inch, Co Clare is reflecting a real frustration and anger with the Government, Sinn Féin leader Mary Lou McDonald has said, and responsibility lies with them
Of all the cynical, wrong headed responses to the riots this has to be up there.

what on earth is the premise here? This happened in a heavy traffic area and you'll use it to lobby against a more human friendly, pedestrian city? I'm baffled.

There is a reason it's so difficult to get to the bottom of the number of greyhounds we breed in this country every year.
