This is a big step and badly needed at level crossings. We're still waiting for the Gardaí and the NTA to install red-light cameras at junctions that were promised early this year. https://t.co/lbPNdwqSIM

A traffic camera that detects cars running red lights and speeding is to be installed at a notorious level crossing in Dublin 4.

2/2 from Infrastructure, Climate and Nature Fund which was earmarked for climate crisis we are undergoing. It is literally robbing Peter to pay Paul to offset lack of ambition in a sustainable future! #budget26 #Budget2026

€2.377bn for public transport vs €1.724bn for roads in #budget26 is NOT a 2:1 investment ratio for public transport infrastructure over roads as previously committed. The Gov can claim the €2bn for MetroLink more than balance that equation BUT the €2 billion was taken 1/2

2/2 got a lower reduction & smaller operators got more so that they could survive. That would have costed a fraction of spend. The remainder could have gone into a second tier child benefit to help the most marginalised. But instead we wanted to support the Big Mac. #budget26

The fact is today's #budget26 VAT cut at a cost of €700m to the taxpayer would have helped my mum's, now closed restaurant (due to rising cost) only a little. What would have helped her & many small restaurants more was a sliding VAT rate. Where the likes of McDonald's get 1/2

We fought for Residential Land Tax, it was a game-changer for delivery of new land for much needed housing. But #budget2026 undercuts the RZLT by bringing in loopholes to allow landowners to postpone payment. We are rolling over to developers, and rolling backwards on housing.

Government using a sledgehammer to crack a nut here 🥜 A more targeted scheme would have delivered better value to taxpayers while supporting the businesses who need it most.

It's official. They're giving big restaurant chains a massive tax cut, costing nearly €700m in the VAT cut to hospitality. For that kind of money you could: 👨‍👩‍👦‍👦 Bring in a second tier of child benefit - lifting 55,000 children out of poverty 🚌 Make public transport free 👶🏻

This would deprive people in Northern Ireland of Irish citizenship. It would mean children of Irish people working abroad would not be Irish citizens. For a nation like ours — with our history of migration and transcending borders — Trumpian thinking takes us far from our roots.

This is an eye-watering tax cut that will go directly into the pockets of big chain restaurants. This tax cut would fund the equivalent of building Luas Finglas every year.

I still can't believe that they're doing this. Giving a massive VAT tax break that'll do very little for small cafés and restaurants, while giving millions to big chains. Weak, unfocused governance. They're too comfortable chucking out our tax money. https://t.co/KH0ict8Jjf

Over the summer, the Government raided the Climate & Nature fund to pay for gaps in their infrastructure bill. Today's Budget could have fixed that and committed new investment for nature and the environment. Unfortunately, there has been no change in their approach.
