1/ Now the embargo has lifted, I’ve had time to read the @lengreview in full. While some celebrate minor cosmetic wins, I see the formal entrenchment of a parallel, underqualified medical workforce — built without medical training.

The new RCP VP for Education and Training said this about PAs👇🏼 ‘Not half as risky as you perceive ‘ ‘They are so much better/know what to do than @BMAResidents ‘ ‘Most will be better than F1 and at least as good as SHOs ‘ Will @danfurmedge retract these statements?

@mattster They have a very simple question to answer. If they are not intending to award CCTs to people without medical qualifications, who are not doctors, why have they removed the term ‘registered medical practitioner’ which is protected in law and only applies to doctors?

The threats my @Keir_Starmer to withdraw training places looks like a very big misstep. - Firstly it harms the public. - Secondly you are threatening a group who have seen their terms and conditions attacked daily by their employer. This is just another Tuesday for them.

The BMA seems surprised that if they reject the deal on offer and go on strike their members don’t get what the Government is offering. We have time before Easter weekend to resolve this dispute. A deal on jobs and pay is on the table. @Keir_Starmer 👇🏻 https://t.co/GczbMXdePw

This is absurd. If we need 4,000 training places we should have them. If we don’t, the Prime Minister shouldn’t be offering them as a bribe paid for by the taxpayer.

I am ashamed of @Keir_Starmer and Labour. To threaten hardworking professionals with lack of career progression (while funding unqualified replacements) and punishing the public by not ensuring future consultants is contemptuous. I likely will not vote @UKLabour next election.

The draft GMC Order 2026 consultation just dropped. Buried in it is a fundamental change to who can be awarded a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT). This matters enormously. Let me explain why.

GMC didn’t feel competent to set scope for PAs yet somehow thinks it is competent to decide who can CCT? This change will make NHS totally unsafe for patients. Is @wesstreeting ‘encouraging’GMC to make this change similarly to when GMC was ‘encouraged’ to agree to regulate PAs!

No country that is serious about their medical standards would do this. This is why, as well as the language he has previously used towards resident doctors, I have no trust in @wesstreeting despite voting for Labour in the last election and desperately wanting to do well.

The new GMC Order is undergoing consultation. The GMC is seeking to remove the speciality register and decide by themselves who should be issued a CCT. This right is currently protected in law. This is the last hurdle before the GMC will be able to issue CCTs to PAs.
