is overwhelming. Not only the medical issues but having to deal with disability paperwork and money issues. I’m not cognitively able to do this much. My brain doesn’t work like it did before. I feel so helpless.

My dad died the day before school started in 2018. I decided to go to school that first day to introduce myself and explain to my 9th grade students why I would be missing the rest of the week. These students who didn’t know me yet were the most kind and understanding students.

So SHS new education plan is for teachers to make $50k. That’s all teachers. No incremental raises for years of experience or Masters degrees. A new teacher would make the same as a teacher with 25 years experience. I would take a pay cut. Welcome to a mass exodus of teachers.

If teachers could indoctrinate students, there wouldn’t be cellphone issues in schools. And students would bring things like writing utensils to class. And not to mention the majority of Arkansans are conservative including teachers. So ridiculous.

LEARNS vouchers for the wealthy is gonna put the state in a precarious position budget wise. It’s unattainable. So many things need fixed in the state and we are throwing coupons to the folks who don’t need it.
Vouchers under “LEARNS” are responsible for 60% of the state’s overall budget increase as they climb from 31.7 million up to 97.5 million for 2025.
“LEARNS” is going to break our state budget and do so while taking from 95% of Arkansas kids & families.

I was once told this would be the policy. I then asked if I was being told to change grades as it’s against our state teaching ethics standards and I could loose my license for falsifying records. That policy never happened after that. Missing assignments should not get a 50%.

So this SHS learns plan gives all teachers making $50k a $2000 raise. BUT it always includes increasing contract days up to 195 days. Some districts are currently 190 days. So essentially they will not be getting a raise. Just pay for the increased contract days.
