Kevin McCarthy, the GOP House minority leader, also tells Fox News that video games are the problem following the mass shootings in El Paso and Dayton.
"He’s not going to sign a bill that doesn’t have money for the wall... if he gives in now, that’s the end of 2019 in terms of him being an effective president. That’s probably the end of his presidency."
- Lindsey Graham, January 2
Not many people know this, but Medicare-for-all is the only thing that costs money. Keeping a military presence in central Asia is actually free, thanks to a bunch of coupons the Pentagon cut out in the 70s.
Thinking about the guy who half-assed a Buffalo Wild Wings chicken sandwich, forgetting all the toppings, not realizing it would be delivered to this guy
The "blue shift" in Pennsylvania is going to launch 10 million conspiracy theories and it was 100% avoidable had legislators just copied Ohio's notes and let them process ballots early.
NEW from
@PressSec
on Lewis, Thompson missing the Civil Rights Museum opening: “We think it’s unfortunate that these members of Congress wouldn’t join the President in honoring the incredible sacrifice civil rights leaders made to right the injustices in our history." (1/2)
Fox News legal analyst Jonathan Turley, on Canada PM Justin Trudeau invoking emergency powers to deal with the "Freedom Convoy" blockade:
"By this rationale, they could have cracked down on the Civil Rights movement. They could have arrested Martin Luther King."
The line she's applauding here is "and now it’s my goal to cut the federal deficit $3 trillion more by making big corporations and the very wealthy finally pay their fair share."
One of my biggest peeves is people with extremely easy jobs making light of low-wage labor. Waiting tables is MUCH harder than flapping your jaws on TV.
Fox & Friends hosts say there's no need to raise the tipped minimum wage: "If you're working at a McDonald's or a small little restaurant where you're making tips, ... if you're nice to the people, you make a lot of money"
A completely sincere thought: Thousands of totally well-meaning people spent a year of their lives working for candidates and their reward was being part of a historic debacle, because the state party fumbled an app. It’s infuriating.
Advice from an Obama admin econ policy vet: "Democats should never again allow Republicans to complain that we can’t afford a particular social program because of its deficit implications. 'We can't afford it' is over."
Pelosi also questioned the policy wisdom of cancelling student loan debt:
“Suppose…your child just decided they, at this time, [do] not want to go to college but you’re paying taxes to forgive somebody else’s obligations. You may not be happy about that."
“I bet you'll go in there and find a brand new flatscreen. That's where her stimulus money went. I don't have any feelings for these people. None."

Chile's president-elect Gabriel Boric was targeted with a green laser pen during his victory speech in Santiago. It is not clear whether Boric noticed the laser pen, and his campaign team has not commented on the incident

ME: Hey, I haven’t seen a Katie Porter shirt outside of her district.
DAN PORTER: Well I guess you’ve never met her dad!
"Unlike the left, we embrace free thought and debate," McCarthy says in a letter explaining why the party has to purge a member of the leadership team for too much free thought and debate.
🚨🚨 BREAKING:
@GOPLeader
has sent a letter about recalling
@Liz_Cheney
.
"Having heard from so many of you in recent days, it’s clear that we need to make a change. As such, you should anticipate a vote on recalling the Conference Chair this Wednesday.”
WH Press Sec Stephanie Grisham claims Obama aides left 'you will fail" notes in offices for Trump aides: “We came into the WH, I’ll tell you something. Every office was filled with Obama books and we had notes left behind that said ‘you will fail,’ ‘you aren’t going to make it,’”
Trump on Fox, asking who the people who want to rename military bases want to rename Fort Bragg after: “Are you going to name it after Rev. Al Sharpton?”
That’s kind of a revealing name to pluck out of the air.
Something everyone decided to forget for some reason is that Trump spent the final weeks of the midterms pivoting to an immigration message -- the caravan was coming and Democrats wouldn't stop it -- then lost the House and every Midwest race.
One reason that Kamala exchange with Biden matters: Dem voters need to be convinced that a woman can face Trump onstage and take him apart. That moment got her a long way.
Warren explaining the wealth tax: "How many people here own a home?" Most hands go up. "You’ve been paying a wealth tax for years. They just call it a property tax. I just want their tax to include the diamonds, the yachts, and the Rembrandts."
Turnout in recent Texas Democratic runoffs:
2012: 236,305
2014: 200,992
2018: 432,180
2020: 955,735
Doesn’t mean Cornyn is vulnerable, but the days of TX Dems just pre-conceding every statewide race are probably over.
Just what America needs...an out-of-touch liberal law professor who thinks government is the answer to our problems. True freedom and prosperity don’t come from the clumsy hand of government, they come from the dignity of hard work!
Delgado’s brief rap career was known before he won the primary; so was his Rhodes scholarship, Harvard Law degree, and subsequent legal career, which for *some reason* are not mentioned here.
The idea that Sanders wasn't a serious legislator was always specious. Rs held the House for most of Sanders's time there; he was in his first Senate term when Obama took WH. As soon as he got a chairmanship (Veterans) he passed a bill so popular Trump took credit for it.
This is surreal. Neither the tweet *nor the video* say what caused the explosion: the LAPD detonated the fireworks they'd seized on a residential street!
UPATE: Arturo Ceja III, 26, charged in connection to massive South LA fireworks explosion that injured 17 and displaced many residents in the blast zone, is set to appear in federal court Tuesday.
Not getting a ton of attention today, but IMO Julian Castro's answer to a question about
@AOC
's tax talk was striking.
"George, there was a time in this country where the top marginal tax rate was over 90 percent."
and *woosh* goes the Overton Window.
A good test for whether the border wall is a winning issue is -- let me just get hypothetical here -- an election in which Republicans spend the final weeks warning about a threat across the border, then lose 40 seats.
This is just a politically sophisticated analysis. In Canada, Biden would be a Liberal and
@AOC
would be NDP. In the rest of the developed world the “universal hc costs too much” candidate would be in a conservative party.
The whole “I just don’t BELIEVE that Biden got 80 million votes” thing ignores one of the campaign’s big developments: Biden broke every record for online fundraising, including Obama’s and Trump’s. The giant turnout and vote total really wasn’t surprising.
The quote is “She should be let go. She should be fired. End of story. When there is a lack of credibility there, you have to start lopping the heads off.”
Pretending that Ryan was calling for violence is more incitement than anything she said.
We're used to it, but it's a big difference between the parties when Rs use a phrase like "Democrat states." Try to imagine a D convention speaker speaking about how, like, Mississippi didn't deserve something.
