Not really. The eruption removed the top center of the volcano to bellow the surface of the ocean. What's causing the eruptions is best explained by Dr. Robin George Andrews

I was referring to the nation of Tonga sinking not the island/volcano off the coast.

Oh no. I haven’t been able to find anything except that the people lost electricity and communications…which is why they haven’t heard much. But now all the top stories are about the CA coast. I don’t know how to find more info. My heart is breaking for them.
