Last year, more Angelenos were killed in car crashes than homicides, with more than half being pedestrians. It's a damning assessment for a city that declared a goal of zero traffic deaths by 2025 a decade ago. So how do we do better? It’s transportation week, so #LetsTalkPolicy

Let's be clear, this isn't how true leaders talk to those who they disagree with. The people wouldn't protest if you gave them the right to be heard. What we witnessed in this clip is the dying battle whimper of a sad defeated man who refuses to accept the inevitable.

The stereotypes of the unhoused are simply not true. They are working class people who have been priced out of housing. Many of us are just 1-2 paychecks away from homelessness. Sweeps are harmful and solve nothing. Housing first policies with services are the only answer.

Idk who needs to hear this but $20/hr equals $41.6k/yr, take home after taxes $29k, if you’re lucky. Average rent for a 1bdrm is $1,825 or $22k year. That’s before factoring in food, bills, transportation, entertainment or family. This is not living.

Studies show that seniors are quickly falling into homelessness. We’ve failed to protect our elders, who are being priced out of their homes. No one can survive on a Social Security check. The system is muddled by bureaucracy and it makes it nearly impossible to get services.

Our criminal justice system is a misnomer. There is no justice, it’s just criminal. We have a for-profit system that lives, breathes, and even thrives on pain and suffering. It’s modern day slavery. How do we reduce crime? By investing in the very groups that our system preys on.

It’s heartbreaking to see our Latino and Black Communities at the top of this list. What’s even sadder is that 49% of the Los Angeles is Latino and only 8.6% is Black, but Black people make 30% of unhoused deaths. Some of these deaths could be prevented if we just housed people.

Agreed. You know what else Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. wouldn’t do? He wouldn’t take unhoused people’s only possessions and throw them away. He wouldn’t criminalize homelessness because no person is illegal. My point is, if you’re going to say what MLK would do…Do all of it.

In Los Angeles 50% of the budget goes to LAPD. Last thing we need is to spend 300k on a robot dog that could kill. Those funds could be invested towards affordable housing, healthcare, food security, job training, arts, sports, theatre. These are essential to heal our community.

LAPD wants to wait for a coroner's report to determine Keenan Anderson’s cause of death. Then LAPD races to release a toxicology report showing he “may” have done cocaine in the past, but wasn't under the influence when he died. When LAPD vilifies victims, we are beyond reform.
