Random Jim Crow fun fact: When visiting black sharecroppers in the early 1960s, Dr. king encountered entire communities of ppl who had never seen U.S. currency bcuz they had never been paid real $$ for their work, only scrip which could be redeemed with the landowners.
Longtime black here. I have cleaned out the homes of numerous elders after their passing.
We ALWAYS found a cash stash...a cigar box under a floorboard, a rolled-up sock, a pocket in a gun case...
All remnants of a pragmatism informed by living under Jim Crow.
This guy sucks
As a black person, I would like to inform the masses that, contrary to popular belief, we do not, in fact, keep large sums of cash in our homes. That's a corrupt Democrat politician thing.
A white woman pushed an aspiring black doctor into a lake knowing he couldn’t swim. The woman also lied to his parents saying ‘he fell into the lake’. They also watched him for 10 minutes before bystanders who did not know him intervened.
BTW, for all the people mad about me telling black kids not to be 'the only one', it was my mentor, an older white man who helped put me on game.

For the love of God, PLEASE read a history book. Rice is heavily featured in Black southern cuisine cooking. Africans from rice producing tribes were specifically enslaved to cultivate it in the low country of NC, SC, GA, and FL.
I see a lot of the lefties coming for black folks... painting us as passive, neutral, or worse even, as collaborators with an unaccountable establishment against a righteous resistance.
Let me explain something to y'all. This simply proves how little they know. A thread:
Vlad was tweeting his opinion on his own timeline not bothering anyone, just like everyone else.
She decided to seek him out, QT, and tell him he couldn't have an opinion because he's white, and now she's the victim? Oh ok.
Let me make it plain, if you were not alive when the crime bill passed, and are not from the 'hood, you, like
@KillerMike
can shut the entire f*ck up about that crime bill. Period.
He told me his position was based on being one of the only Jewish people around when he was in undergrad.
He described the experience as lonely, terrifying and something he wouldn't wish on his worst enemy.
Thank you for coming to my TED Talk.
@streamsilka
You DO realize that floodwater will come in direct contact with the sewage system, trash, waterways (e.g the GOWANIS CANAL) and anything that is at ground level as it rises right?
It is VERY contaminated and you shouldn't touch it let alone play in it.
Black Americans are the savviest, most politically astute part of the electorate for one reason:
We fully understand the VERY finite nature of the white majority's appetite for justice, equity, and tolerance when it comes to outgroups.
I'm Gen-X.
I was a kid in the wild-ass 70s, a tween when crack hit, and came of age when murder was at an all-time high. I've seen it all. Firsthand.
The LAST thing I am worried about right now is street crime.
I AM, however worried about fascism under the Orange Man.
These soft mfers can't process gluten or function for more than a day without Concerta, but think they are built to be an effective resistance against fascism and GOP-lead one-party rule.
They are lying to themselves.
Our aim is to nullify the retrograde ideology of the Right and thwart its ability to win elections via nominally "respectable" means.
This means being in coalition with compromised allies and NEVER holding our votes hostage.
It doesn't mean tearing up college campuses for vibes
His words, in a thick BK accent "There's no f*ckin' way I would send a Black or Puerto Rican kid from Brooklyn 'out there' by himself, completely cut off from his community..."
'Out there' meaning schools in the heartland with student bodies that were >90 percent white.
One of the most "black famous" bands ever, the GAP band is an acronym for Greenwood, Archer and Pine, the hub of Black Wallstreet in Tulsa, OK.
Assuming black folk don't know our own history prove our point.
AIDS, White flight, and Reagan's "War on Drugs" (the unrequested sequel to Nixon's "War on Crime") which criminalized blackness to an extent not seen since Reconstruction, were all a giant "F*CK YOU" to the changes brought about by the Civil Rights Movement and 1960s uprisings.
@henrymcmaster
Here's a suggestion, let the market move to pay living wages that are actually higher than those offered by federal assistance.
This is much more humane, moral and Christian than lowering the income floor and thereby the standard of living for your constituents.
The election of Ronald Reagan in 1980 was a DIRECT repudiation of the integration of non-whites and gay folk into mainstream society, of restorative justice, and of any accountability for allowing Jim Crow society to persist for almost a century.
Remember Brittany Watts who was arrested in Ohio for FELONY ABUSE OF CORPSE; she miscarried in her home. In December, an Ohio judge ruled that the case against her could proceed & is now in under consideration by a grand jury.
When powerful men rule, powerless women suffer.
I hope this answers the question of why black people over the age of 40 are unmoved by the calls to "radical" action by relative newcomers to the struggle against the shibboleths of white supremacy, corporatism and neocolonialism.
That door closed 40 years ago.
“I won’t vote for Biden. At this point voting Trump is on the table (…) I won’t support anyone anti-Israel or anti making USA safe,”

And you know what? He was MILITANT about not allowing non-white students to attend these schools alone.
He would always insist that these schools, where he'd gained some influence, would at the very least accept the first AND second ranked candidates from a given community.
What a lot of ppl are missing is that during the Civil Rights movement, being arrested was part of the larger strategy of illustrating just how nakedly unconstitutional Jim Crow statutes were.
These circumstances informed the pragmatism in black political activity that an activist corps comprised of youth, tankies & non-Americans mistakenly interpret as passivity or collusion, thus the disrespect of black people within the latest resistance du jour
A secular Jew and child of Holocaust survivors, sometime in the 1980s he made the choice to spend some of his fortune helping Black and Latino kids from less fortunate backgrounds obtain academic scholarships to mostly PWIs.
He did this up until his death in the late 2000s.
This admin has done: Reparations for black farmers, carve-outs for AAs within the Office of Minority Business Development, and the largest reinvestment in HBCUs ever.
Booker introduced a Black maternal health bill in 2018.
It was blocked by you know who.
Google is free.
The student loan cancelling was not specific for Black Americans. Insulin cost went down for all Americans. It was not specific for Black Americans. Minority does not equate to Black Americans. Rental assistance was not specific for Black Americans. So stop
@BKCaliNative
Yep. They couldn't be more wrong. If not for the coalition of black folks, other POCs, gay folks and the Jewish community, this country would already be a fascist dictatorship
A portion of the land my family acquired after slavery was taken via eminent domain because it lay in the path of I-95. My great grandfather was forced to sell it for pennies on the dollar.
A reminder that urban planning and eminent domain started being used as tools of racism and oppression almost as soon as Black Americans had been free long enough to acquire land and build communities.
See, this is that bullsh*t we be talking about.
CONSERVATIVES will use every breath they can muster to pass laws and enact policies which are catastrophic to outgroups, even if it takes decades, but let's give them credit for being open about their misanthropic pathology.
As a woman of color, I’ve had both liberal and conservative friends, and ironically I sometimes find liberals more frustrating. Conservatives will admit to their biases and you can confront them directly. Liberals will secretly hold biases, and then gaslight you about it
I need Gen-z to understand that the orange moron proposed a TikTok ban first.
Why is Biden doing the same?
Because ESPIONAGE.
If we throw this election to the bad guys over a sh*tty, toy app, we deserve the fascism they will inflict upon us all.
So what happens if Biden eliminates student debt with the "stroke of a pen"?
How long would it be before a conservative judiciary fast tracks a case to the SC to not just reverse it, but to prevent the future admins from intervention in contract law for ANY reason whatsoever?
You wanna know the sad part? I really WANTED to believe the youth would be smarter, and better than we were.
Unfortunately, it seems like a lifetime of no primary sources, a relatively risk-free existence, and a sense of entitlement has ruined yet another generation of youth.

@haylesatan
You missed one....the mythical black slaveholder whose alleged existence lets everyone else who set up, profited from and perpetuated slavery off the hook..

Black people do not want the police to operate
1. in an illegal manner
2. differently than they would in well to do white communities.
Same applies to the courts and prison system.
We still want protection of the law from criminals, which is why "defund" is unpopular.
@FriendEden100
The Pentagon should cancel his contract and expropriate Starlink under 50 U.S. Code § 1701.
If the contract has any liquidated damages clauses, leverage them to offset any FMV value claims Musk would file seeking compensation.
@TheJessieWoo
Ukraine has absolutely nothing to do with the intentional mismanagement of federal appropriations to Mississippi.
It's not a zero sum game.
@bothgoifriend
A lot of black kids with creative energy looked up to Basquiat. He represented a kind of authenticity to oneself that a black kid growing up in the 80s would admire. I'd bet that Jay, who is a product of Marcy projects, is looking from the perspective of his younger self.
At no point in the last 10years would I have predicted George Lucas being a hero and Dave Chappelle being an absolute villain in "Rich People Land Use Wars".
@CBSNews
Don't you mean: "What age is too young to encourage humanity and compassion in children?"
FYI: Black children have had to learn about racism as young as possible in order to save their lives (from white violence).
See, this is that nonsense we be talking about.
For who? Stein the Russian asset? Williamson the abusive swivel-eyed loon? Birdman Kennedy? Or someone else who is likely just as compromised by foreign powers with just as few allies in Congress.
PASS.
It's Biden for me.
🇺🇸Joe Rogan: If Biden wins, you'll have a president in decline with diverse idiots under him
"He's gone. You know he's gone. You're going to be relying on his cabinet that'll be a sideshow of diversity.
You can't have those kinds of people running a Ben and Jerry."

The opposite is true. The 80s were deadly serious..AIDS, crack, nuclear brinksmanship and Reaganism had ppl on the ropes. That's why the partying looked so brazy.
@DaHeathenOne76
That part. My grandfather had to go the local LOAN SHARK to open a grocery store in the hood in DC back in the day. He couldn't even get in the door at a bank. Sadly things have changed little since then.

EVs have far fewer moving parts...electric motors are much, much simpler than internal combustion engines. This will = lower the long-term costs of ownership.
Perhaps hectoring the administration to exert absolute control over a situation it didn't create and cannot unilaterally defuse, while stating your community's 1% of the available votes will not be attainable (without committing political seppuku) wasn't a good strategy.
The Biden campaign has such disdain for Arabs and Muslims that it sort of takes my breath away. Its policy is to write us off, dismiss us, or ignore us.
@MBLGMCR
You clearly weren't there if you think this, and by there I mean NYC clubs in the late 80s.
This was yet another example of 🍞 appropriation of underground (queer, black and Latinx) culture.
@jacobin
Because nothing says 'economic anxiety' like having enough $$ to procure a $700 rifle plus another $1K in tactical gear, then driving 200mi. with gas at $5.00/gal in order to commit mass murder.
Bigotry and the infantilization of whiteness are the problem, not capitalism
Waitaminit!
Someone with BLM and as of late, a watermelon and a Palestinian flag has been desperately trying to convince me that both parties are the same and that Biden is Ming the Merciless.
Could they have been lying to me?
BREAKING: The Biden administration will repeal parts of a Trump-era rule allowing health care institutions and providers to deny treatment based on personal beliefs.
This news comes at a critical moment. We have a right to access health care without discrimination.
@naima
@bayofarizona
Basically. I REFUSE to "Freedom Ride" for black people who provide cover for white supremacy. You want to be a "free thinker"? Good luck with that champ.

It's a turboprop engined aircraft. It's actually a jet engine that turns the propellers vs a reciprocating engine (which is what powers most prop planes and cars).
Weird but true.
Jim Crow was also terrorism for which there was no accountability whatsoever. There are literally millions of survivors of that grotesque chapter in American history.
Politicians: We can't pay reparations b/c no Black person alive today suffered that terrorism. It's ancient history.
People: That's an invalid excuse but also here are 3 survivors of the 1921 Tulsa Race massacre & they demand reparations.
Politicians: ...Also no
In my lifetime, I've worked as a janitor, on the line at a UPS hub, at a retail warehouse and on road construction crews. Not only did these jobs require skillsets beyond just showing up, they were physically and mentally draining. There is no such thing as "unskilled" labor.
My people are from the Carolinas too. Low country in fact. Geechee Gullah. Unlike you, we clearly understand the realignment of the parties that took place in the 1960s.
There is a reason Thurmond started a Dem but died a Republican while never once denouncing his racist past.
He STOLE the money.
There are 2 justice systems in this country. It may be redundant to point out the differentiator for who receives this much leniency for larceny on such a grand scale, but I'll do it anyway, with two words...

Hahaha...oh wait, you're being serious.
Global capital has looked at the demographic trends and decided conservatives, racists and anti-science zealots are not the future and therefore, not worth the hassle.
This week's coup attempt was another nail in your coffin

I only stay in Airbnbs when I travel to places that don't have enough hotels (this gets real in rural Europe), if hotels are price gouging during high demand periods or when I want to have a homelike experience while away.
@boldtiming
Your hair must still be wet from the womb. Those of us who were there and old enough to remember the 'Lords know they had nothing but solidarity with the black liberation movements of the time.
