I'm trying to imagine the right wing's reaction if someone with this kind of criminal history killed 3 people on the subway and was sentenced to 3 years in prison. Our tolerance for road violence and the tiny repercussions for mass killings with automobiles is gross.

It's not that transit is freedom, it's transit *with frequent service* that provides freedom: If we had missed the Red Line train we took earlier this Sunday afternoon in DC we would've only had to wait another 7 minutes for next one. Show up and go service is so liberating.
