Three months ago, @GavinNewsom correctly warned us that failing to address our housing crisis would cost us people’s trust, and that the entire reputation of the State of California was on the line. Call him now and urge him to follow through by signing #SB79! ☎️ (916) 445-2841

Like, can you imagine Dean Preston saying this? Literally never. Not in a million years.

“I’m going to make it easier for the private sector to build housing in this city...what we see today is that it’s not labor, it’s not materials, it’s the wait that’s often costing so many, so much to actually build the housing we need." The Left YIMBY candidate we deserve!

With a complete blank slate, this is the best we could come up with? This is our answer to Tokyo, Chongqing, and Copenhagen?
1/ 🇺🇸 Today, @CAForever submitted detailed plans for the next great American city, an hour north of Silicon Valley, including: Solano Foundry, America’s largest manufacturing park, Solano Shipyard, our largest shipyard, and walkable neighborhoods for 400,000 Californians.

Some background: the Mayor voted to approve a housing project protected by state law. If the council did not approve it, they would've gotten sued, lost, and the town would have been bankrupted. People are trying to recall her anyway. Marin County NIMBYism remains undefeated!

If you guessed "someone's trying to build a new apartment building," you'd be correct!

This is wild. ICYMI, SB 79 was not the only pro-housing bill @CAgovernor signed. He signed over 40 bills that tackle speeding up construction, expanding affordability, strengthening accountability and more. I couldn't even fit it in one screenshot!

the year is 2035. you're forced to live in a walkable neighborhood. you hear my voice blasting through the propaganda loudspeaker outside. it's time to go for a walk. you are legally required to wear a nice little outfit and go out today to adopt a cat or dog from a shelter.
Update: This kind of smart, walkable, mixed-used urbanism is now LEGAL to build in most California cities

I've said it before and I'll say it again, it's probably impossible to overstate the broader cultural impact of governance failures and housing costs sending hundreds of thousands of Americans from California/Illinois/New York to Texas/Tennessee/Florida.
Grown men who were born in Chicago and work office jobs are wearing cowboy boots And listening to Zachary Bryan Complete cultural victory

Each time I think I’ve finally seen peak melodrama about SB 79, a new peak emerges.
Tragic that so many people will suffer the loss of the peaceful enjoyment of their homes as a result of SB 79 turning quiet streets into construction zones and overcrowded mini-Manhattans. The backlash will be epic. Billion-dollar transit could go the way of the Red Car tracks.

For decades, local control and CEQA (even for infill!) were treated as untouchable sacred cows. Until they weren’t. Even when it's unpopular, even when everyone is telling you it can't be changed, never stop pushing.

A year ago, I was genuinely not sure that we'd ever see either of these reforms in my lifetime. This year, we passed them both. It's kind of incredible how the dam broke and how much changed in such a short period of time.

Important to remember that not only did we pass #SB79, the biggest transit-oriented upzoning bill ever, we also passed a clean CEQA exemption for new multifamily infill housing. This is, bar none, the biggest year in state action on housing policy reform in California history.

Not as sexy as SB79 but … An appellate court just invalidated Redondo Beach’s HE in a sweeping decision, finding HE housing “overlays” on commercial/industrial land illegal when 100% non resi projects remain allowed under the zoning. Result - mid cycle Builders Remedy is back ⤵️

I've spent the last 8 months of my life working to pass #SB79. It will be transformative for housing in California, and is one of the best things I'll probably ever get to do. As of this morning, it's officially law; now it's time to drink!

If your definition of success is "my leftist friends think it's a banger," then yeah, Abundance was a flop. If you define success as the embrace of the political class and subsequent major shifts in both policy and rhetoric though, it was unquestionably effective!

California should be an advertisement for what Democrats can do with power. But for too long, it's been an advertisement for the opposition. Rising home prices in the state have contributed to several crisis: an affordability crisis, a homelessness crisis, and an exodus crisis,

On another note, I cannot believe we managed to get a Twitch streamer to ask Newsom live about SB79. Never stop posting, folks!

.@GavinNewsom on #SB79 just now in his Twitch conversation with @ConnorEatsPants: "It’s on my desk & I will be reviewing it on its merits. It’s really important housing legislation, and I recognize how important it is." Folks: keep calling + urging him to sign! (916) 445-2841

So, @GavinNewsom is playing Fortnite on Twitch right now with @ConnorEatsPants. YIMBYs flooded the chat asking him to sign #SB79 to build more housing and got so many people to post that we all just got this message 😂
