More importantly, limiting opportunities is bad for kids. I don't think anyone would argue that schools should work to engage & challenge students. Eliminating advancement opportunities is a fast path to disengagement for students who could excel. 3/3

1st, this is a huge issue, especially in some blue cities like Seattle (where I am). But it's broader than just G&T in that it speaks to advanced course-taking opportunities (e.g., algebra in SF). Seems like bad politics to limit opportunities for students to advance, & 2/n
