⚖️
It’s time to vote, DC!
Vote by mail, vote early, or vote on Election Day! 🗳️
I would be honored to have your vote to continue serving as the Ward 2 Councilmember!
Trump expects DC residents to pick up his garbage, protect his family, serve his hotel guests, & get stuck behind his motorcade, but refuses to grant us our rights as American citizens who happen to contribute more in federal taxes than 22 states. The time is now for
#DCstatehood
“DC will never be a state...You mean District of Columbia, a state? Why? So we can have two more Democratic — Democrat senators and five more congressmen? No thank you. That’ll never happen." -Trump

DC has a major problem of absenteeism in our schools w/ 2 out of 5 students chronically absent.
We all have to be on the same page about this: school is not optional.
I’ll be asking the Executive agencies Tuesday what their plans are to turn this around
I am proud to be sworn in to the DC Council to represent Ward 2.
We cannot let the seemingly insurmountable work of today cripple our ability to act for tomorrow; instead, these great needs must galvanize us to create fundamental change.
I am proud and confident to share with you that we have won the Ward 2 Democratic Primary. My full statement on this major moment of change in our community is below. Let's get to work!
Today, I am so proud & excited to announce that I’m running for re-election!
Ward 2 deserves pragmatic, ethical, & responsive representation. I'm running to continue delivering results for the people of DC who I believe in so deeply.
Join us:
I am proud to have won the Special Election to fill the vacant Ward 2 Council seat for the rest of this term.
I look forward to working with all stakeholders, regardless of who you voted for, to ensure we can build a more equitable city together.
Read my full statement below.
I was very concerned to see so many people gathering, drinking, and congregating in Logan Circle this evening. A reminder: while going on a walk or picking up food is okay, we need to heed the advice of the CDC and DC public health officials to maintain 6 ft distance.
Youngest Councilmember meets youngest ANC Commissioner 👊🏼
DC’s youngest Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner
@QColonRoosevelt
! Still in high school, yet stepping up to serve his community. Congratulations!
Yesterday, the District government stood together for common sense & solutions in passing my Secure DC omnibus legislation.
Safety & security for all residents is my priority.
The work continues.
DC residents deserve our immediate and urgent action to make the District safer and more secure.
Today, I am sharing I am moving my Secure DC plan as one omnibus legislative package.
Judiciary Committee will vote next Wednesday, January 17th.
“Because we can’t just paint those words behind me. We can’t just say those words. We have to live those words. We have to undo the laws & systems that have codified racism for far too long.”
Thanks for making our city proud tonight

This is a good 1st step by DC in elevating social consciousness that Black lives matter. Now the Council & Mayor need to do the critical work of dismantling racist policies. The DC Council will be voting soon on an emergency omnibus bill to take greater steps towards this goal.
Tomorrow at 4 PM, I will take the oath of office to represent Ward 2 on the DC Council.
In addition to my oath, I am committed to fighting for fairness and justice for all in our community.
Watch the ceremony & my remarks about fairness at .
Unacceptable — and so often done by out of state vehicles. We will implement Vision Zero so our pedestrians and bikers can actually access our roads and sidewalks safely.
21st St btwn Constitution + Dupont is virtually unwalkable.
Today: more than a dozen obstructions illegally in crosswalks, bike lanes, sidewalks.
Many blocks are off-limits to walkers b/c construction.
I hope
@brookeforward2
will make ward 2 better for pedestrians + cyclists.
Jordan — you ran an amazing campaign. Thank you for pushing us all to clean corruption out of our city and ensure that Ward 2 is for everyone, not just a select few. Thank you for your leadership. I look forward to working together in that fight!
In the end, we came up a little short. With the latest results, I no longer see a path to victory. Moving forward, I won’t be actively campaigning in the special election. Thank you from the bottom of my heart to everyone who put their trust in me.
Thank you so much
@PLKDC
for your commitment to bettering Ward 2. You have been a fantastic leader in our community and will continue to be. I appreciate your thoroughness, preparation, and thoughtfulness. I look forward to working together!
I want to congratulate
@brookeforward2
on running a stellar campaign and winning the Ward 2 Democratic primary. I wish her luck in both the special and general elections.
We required this dashboard be created & this data be publicly shared in my Prioritizing Public Safety emergency bill the Council passed this summer.
It’s important for all of us to have access to this info as we consider the outcomes for prosecution, sentencing, & diversion.
These legally-mandated data dashboards are a massive step towards DC catching up to other cities in being able to see how our justice system functions.
One reason we got into this mess was that these agencies hid behind annual reports that no one read.
Ward 2: My pledge to you is to treat you all as my neighbors: to serve, care for, and love you as such. The best way for me to fulfill that pledge is captured by RBG, “fight for the things you care about, but do it in a way that will lead others to join you.”
“…Secure D.C. Plan — a package of bills and other initiatives proposed by Councilmember Brooke Pinto. To Pinto’s credit, her proposal takes a deep dive into virtually all aspects of the city’s justice system. And her plan is going to make waves.”
Thank you
@AOC
for standing up for so many woman who face harassment & bullying. As a young woman in politics, you learn to ignore innapropriatte, gendered, & rude comments, but standing up & calling out this behavior for the larger societal impacts it has is much more important.
Yesterday, we recorded 102 new Coronavirus cases. Effective today, everyone over 3 in DC is now required to wear a mask when going outside and likely to interact with others. My Grey’s Anatomy one isn’t here yet so I’m rocking this boring one for now. Stay safe out there DC!
I just dropped my paperwork off at
@Vote4DC
and it’s official: I’m running for re-election to continue serving the residents of Ward 2!
I hope I can count on your support:
“On Monday, [Pinto] unveiled a comprehensive package of crime-fighting legislation…drafted with input from police and prosecutors…Ms. Pinto’s bill would close loopholes that have hindered prosecutors in recent years.”
I am honored and grateful to be Ward 2’s Democratic nominee. Before we turn our attention fully to the Ward 2 Special Election on June 16th, I’d love to thank everyone and discuss our path forward as a community.
Watch my remarks below.
We have a lot of work do on the
@councilofdc
to get this budget right, and I’m committed to that. But I also want to share some of what we accomplished during yesterday’s legislative meeting that will help move DC and Ward 2 forward!
We also passed and signed Secure DC on an emergency basis, meaning that its provisions can be implemented immediately.
Thank you to everyone who has been a part of this effort. I’m proud of our government standing together on this critical issue. Everyone deserves to be safe.
Today,
@MayorBowser
signed my Secure DC bill into law -- a major turning point toward a safer and more secure DC.
I will always fight for the safety and wellbeing of all our neighbors. Regardless of the neighborhood you live in, work in, or visit, everyone deserves to be safe.
Council votes Tuesday on my emergency bill to hold perpetrators accountable, protect & support victims, ensure police are able to keep our community safe, & increase accountability & transparency for our public safety apparatus.
We must act urgently.
Thank you so much
@DCDemocrats
for your support and leadership. So wonderful to celebrate with you and the other Democratic elected officials tonight!
I know we will accomplish great things and galvanize our enthusiastically engaged community, together!
As the only woman in this race & the first to hold this seat, I want to highlight the women who inspire me. Anna Eskamani (
@AnnaForFlorida
), the first Iranian American in the Florida Legislature, inspires me with her "tell it like it is" nature & her commitment to public service.
A huge thank you to the
@washingtonpost
for their endorsement of our campaign to restore integrity & vibrancy in the Ward 2 community. Strong leadership during times of crisis requires not only BIG ideas, but also the grit & know-how to get them done🔻.
In light of tonight’s VP debate, I want to highlight
@KamalaHarris
who inspires me w/ her commitment to service. Kamala's resilient leadership inspired me to run for office & gives me hope for the future of women at the table. When women vote, women win.
#WomenInPoliticsWednesday
Great to speak with neighbors about the importance of passing my Secure DC plan and our city’s future.
Always appreciate the great ideas shared and engagement from residents across DC on these vital public safety issues.
Our Advisory Neighborhood Commissioners are wonderful public servants and partners in our efforts to support residents and businesses and improve public safety. Great to celebrate all their hard work tonight at MLK Library!🙏🎉
Shout out to our Ward 2 Commissioners in the house!
Polls are closed! Thank you voters, thank you candidates, thank you DC election workers, and thank you volunteers!! Stay safe and stay calm tonight, DC. 🗳✅
Congratulations
@AllisterChang
new State Board of Education Ward 2 representative! I am eager to work together on behalf of our students, families, and teachers. The city is lucky to have your expertise and energy in the conversation.
Despite how bleak the world around us is—pandemic, racism, and police brutality—progress is always within our grasp. However, it won’t just happen on its own, especially from the top down. Start right here and right now in your own community.
The choice is yours. Go vote today!
Thank you
@chefjoseandres
for your contagious enthusiasm for good food and building community. You’ve been an incredible partner with the District and we are so grateful for all of your support and consistent commitment to our city. 🙏😋
Today I want to highlight DC's “Streeateries.” This initiative opens streets up for restaurants to dine patrons safely - an innovative way to keep some favorite local joints open! Personally, I'm thankful that amidst everything I can still grab a Proper Burger from
@DukesGrocery
!
The violence we’re seeing in our city can’t be tolerated.
I held a hearing on our violence reduction programs to urge that they work in tandem together. We heard about the roll out of a 211 referral system where families can call for support.
More intervention must be done.
For hours, the Judiciary and Public Safety Committee met to review the mayor's violence reduction programs. Community members had the opportunity to speak to council members about how they have been impacted by crime.
@AnitaBondsDC
@brookepintodc
Thrilled to have the endorsement of United States
@SenMDBrown
(D-DC) who has shown enormous leadership for our District as a committed advocate for DC statehood. Looking forward to working together to get DC the resources it needs and deserves.
Jacob Blake was shot in the back 7 times in front of his own children. The harm society continues to perpetuate against unarmed Black men and women throughout this country must be stopped. We cannot ever give up this fight to make sure that Black lives are valued and protected.
So grateful to have the endorsement of U.S. Sen. Blumenthal! More than ever, DC needs strong cooperation with Congress to make sure the District gets the representation and resources we deserve, especially in the fight to recover from the COVID-19 crisis.
I joined
@TomSherwood
and
@kaylahhewitt
on Politics Hour to discuss my Secure DC omnibus bill and how it will make DC residents safer through improving prevention, accountability, and government coordination.
Check out the full episode here:
We should follow our neighbor Virginia’s lead and make General Election Day a holiday so voting is more accessible. While we’re at it, Primary Election Day should also be a holiday.
Congratulations to our next Attorney General,
@BrianforDC
! DC is lucky to have your intellect and heart focused on safety, integrity, and human rights for the people of our city. Looking forward to working together.
I’m honored and grateful to receive the support of
@MomsDemand

Gun violence has plagued our community for too long. I’m committed to continue partnering w/ MDA &
@Everytown
in fighting for common sense gun legislation & getting guns off of our streets.
Thank you, Ward 2, for putting your faith and trust in me to lead & care for our community during this important moment in our history. I will fulfill my commitment to serve each of you w/ transparency & respect & will make you proud.
The House of Representatives passed H.R. 51 to grant DC Statehood. Now, the Senate and White House must recognize the inevitable truth: all Americans deserve representation and fundamental rights in our country.
We just made history! The US House just voted to end a 210-year injustice and to give equal representation to the 700,000 residents of Washington, DC.

Justice Ginsburg inspired us all not to accept the status quo. Fairness and justice are not determined by what has been and instead guided by what can be. Our country is stronger for her brilliance, compassion, creativity, and service. Thank you RBG. 👏🏼💙🇺🇸
Thank you to our incredible Campaign Manager,
@anderspokela
‼️ Your energy, commitment to community engagement and transparency, and positivity were and will always be so important. Grateful for your effort and your friendship! I know you will have a wonderful career.
So proud of Brooke and this team for pulling out a massive, landslide win! In the midst of a public health and economic crisis, Ward 2 could not have a better leader to get us through it all.
Looking forward to 4 years of thoughtful and pragmatic progressive leadership!
“While the rigors of the Democratic Primary are now behind her, Ward 2’s Democratic nominee, potential first woman in the seat, & the District’s potential youngest DC Councilmember in history is now poised to tackle an unprecedented confluence of challenges facing the District.”
Please join me in voting by mail for the Ward 2 Special Election! This election is critical to ensure that I can get to work right away to represent Ward 2 on the DC Council. We have a lot of work to do!
Your ballot must be postmarked by June 16th!
“We must provide for the safety & well-being of our residents,” said Democrat Brooke Pinto, Washington Councilmember who championed the crime package. “We didn’t do a complete 180, instead looked at practical realities on the ground & sought to right-size many of those reforms.”
The emergency legislation I introduced today will be voted on this coming Tuesday and when passed will take effect immediately. As we continue our efforts to improve public safety sustainably, we also must act with urgency to address the crisis we are facing today. Details👇🏼
Today, I intro’d a series of emergency bills to urgently address the crisis of crime & violence. 🧵
These measures are necessary to
1⃣Prevent repeat offenders from further harming & traumatizing our community
2⃣Hold perpetrators accountable
3⃣Protect and support victims
I'm very concerned to see Ward 2 candidates who claim to be running people-powered campaigns & not accepting corporate money, yet have Super PAC’s funding large efforts for their campaigns. Let’s finally mean what we say in Ward 2, which is why I've made this anti-PAC pledge👇
A beautiful end to

Happy Father’s Day to all of the wonderful dads out there — in presence & in spirit. And a special thank you to my incredibly thoughtful father who has taught me to always show up and give back to our community. I love you, Dad! ❤️💙
Thank you so much
@PostOpinions
for your endorsement and belief in our campaign!! I’m so grateful for your confidence in our ability to help move our city forward. I will continue to work every day on behalf of our neighbors to help us through this crisis.
Jamal Khashoggi knew that by shining a light on Saudi Arabia and seeking truth, he risked his freedom and, indeed, his life. Journalists around the world and here in America face similar dangers every day, and we must never let those who seek to intimidate them succeed.
Thanks to
@brookepintodc
and others in the
@councilofdc
for voting unanimously to pass a portion of the street directly in front of the Saudi Embassy as "Jamal Khashoggi Way,” memorializing DAWN’s late founder and
@washingtonpost
columnist Jamal Khashoggi.
One of the many reasons we need statehood. Vote for
@JoeBiden
. Elections matter. The law matters. We cannot take for granted the need to fight for equality and justice, every day.
Proud to be supported by so many community leaders, elected officials, and progressive organizations! I am committed to continuing the fight to bring progress, fairness, and change to Ward 2 and our city.
Want to be, as
@leslieodomjr
says, in the "room where it happens?” I'm committed to making sure that's not just a few people - it's everyone. Watch the full meeting @ & weigh in! Here’s me explaining one of many topics we covered today: an advertising tax!
Come join us at the Dupont Circle Farmers Market at the corner of Q and 20th! Buy local, sign up to volunteer, and grab a button or yard sign — see you here!!
I know we’ve got a lot of work to do, but 98% of DC residents live within a 10 minute walk of a park...and that’s a beautiful thing.
We just ranked 1️⃣ in the US on the
#trustforpublicland
list for best city park system in the county. 🏞
