NYC is way too expensive — but some of the best things are free. Earlier this week, I met up with some new friends at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center to watch some qualifying matches. US Open Fan Week runs through Saturday. And it's free.

This is something feds should care about because dispatch of 911 is a national security issue. Unfortunately neither feds nor local DC gov seems interested in making it work better.

NEW FROM STATter911: Just 60 seconds after fixing one botched dispatch, DC911 made the very same mistake on a second call. It was one of at least three errors in an hour yesterday. DC911/@OUC_DC continues to struggle with the basics while @CMBrookePinto helps them hide the bad.

D.C. residents, we have a bigger bully to fight. For me, that means that we need to put our smaller differences aside and focus on the big picture. I think DC needs to be more prudent in spending than some groups in this alliance, but that's not our biggest problem right now.

We are suing to block the federal government takeover of DC police. By illegally declaring a takeover of MPD, the Administration is abusing its temporary, limited authority under the law. This is the gravest threat to Home Rule DC has ever faced, and we are fighting to stop it.
