Which moment in SF politics first made you realize that its flavor of progressivism is often self-interest cynically dressed up as a form of sensitivity? So many to choose from. First that comes to mind is when Calle 24 successfully removed traffic calming barriers by claiming

When a median barrier went up in mid-October at 24th and Shotwell streets in an effort to keep Shotwell a “slow street,” the complaints started coming

They say a picture is worth a thousand words. Here are Boston City Councilmembers Murphy, Santana, Mejia, Flynn, and Weber all on their phones while blind Bostonians testify against their proposed ban on fully autonomous vehicles.

This is only possible because the port of Long Beach isn’t under the control of the International Longshoreman’s Association.
This isn’t China. This is Long Beach, California. Over 100 transport containers move autonomously between quayside cranes, storage yards, and rail transfer points. The vehicles can achieve a maximum speed of 13 mph, and can transport containers that are up to 70 tonnes.

This is why all the anti-solar tweets from @ENERGY are so annoying. Coal is last century's technology. Solar is this century's.

Even in a dry state like CA, focusing on data centers in the water debate is borderline delusional thinking. Alfalfa farming is less than 0.1 % of CA's GDP and yet consumers 14% of all its water. Don't grow livestock feed in the desert!

@sdamico @Noahpinion Sam is correct, a rail line could be built on the I-5 from San Francisco to LA and indeed the French operators SNCF proposed just that. Rejected for political equity reasons!

Since this building was deemed "historic" by the city of San Francisco, it cannot be demolished. And because its in an industrial zone, there is no clear path to it becoming housing. (despite the apartment building next door) So instead we get this - legally protected blight.

The whole "nonviolent protest doesn't work if the goons beat you up" thing is so dumb...it works BECAUSE the goons beat you up, and then everyone hates the goons!

Abundance is so moderate/banal/measured that I'm half-convinced there's some secret, second book out there with the same name that you're all arguing about.
