Awesome new hybrid threshold encryption concept for encrypted mempools!
New post by Benedikt Wagner and me tldr: users encrypt towards a threshold committee which forces decryption. However, users do not depend on the threshold committee; they can also decrypt themselves Hybrid encrypted mempools break the trade-off between liveness and MEV issues!

Our main contributions: - Explore a hybrid design between user reveal and threshold committee designs. - Understand how a threshold committee would work in the context of Ethereum L1. - Highlight the rough cryptographic requirements for a threshold committee in Ethereum.

The problem? Threshold committees face a liveness problem: the chain cannot process transactions if the committee does not show up. User reveal has a MEV problem: users spam with arbitrage transactions and only reveal the ones that turn out to be profitable.

Chatting with @0xQuintus opens your eyes to future TEE possibilities. Imo we should eventually consider what Ethereum could gain from L1 TEE builders.
One thing I think we get wrong in crypto is that we think of TEEs as a static menu - We have a few options and that's it. In reality its a technology that can be improved. We don't evaluate FHE based on the performance it can hit today but by where it can given additional

In defence of FOCIL Note: I genuinely think that more eyes on major EIPs are always a net positive. The more visibility and constructive feedback we get, the more likely we are to ship meaningful, important upgrades for Ethereum. • FOCIL is about adding multiple proposers that

🧵Introducing EIP-7999: Unified multidimensional fee market. Ethereum is like a supermarket with one inventory label. There are 45M eggs, 45M cheese, 45M snacks. etc, but everything scans as "1 food". To avoid empty shelves, it closes once 45M food has been sold during the day.

Here is an article on the complexity of FOCIL for the EL. It introduces three new or modified engine APIs and provides example implementations. It also covers the compatibility between FOCIL and BALs. The next writeup will address the complexity of FOCIL for the CL with feedback
