Holesky chain launched, and now finalizing. After the first few epochs, most of the validator groups are now online and validating! ~78% participation rate right now. Huge thanks for all the teams dedicating massive amount of resources to get this chain up and running!

We tried to keep the genesis state size as small as possible, but still reached a record size of 197MB. Hopefully the 1.46M validators will keep us ahead of the mainnet validator count for quite a while. We had to skip a few node operators to keep the genesis size managable.

We will allocate over 2B hETH at genesis. Hopefully this will solve the long term issue that we have all faced with Goerli. No wallet should run dry with on Holesky! Faucets and RPC endpoints will come online shortly after the genesis event. Allocated some extra hETH for deposits

Holesky public testnet genesis file has been generated, and merged into main branch of https://t.co/JWKySOSvtU. Launch date Sept/15, 2023, 14:00 UTC Chain ID-17000 (zip code of Holešovice). The genesis will have 1,460,000 validators. Our biggest public network to date.

Lets now compare with @go_ethereum numbers (using the same hardware/network conditions): 6h 48 mins 19:51:59.013 - Sync started 02:39:24.845 - Syncing completed 764GB. Both execution clients were synced with their default flags. Geth used more CPU but less RAM during the sync.

After the old bodies syncing the chain is 525GB.

Power consumption in the meanwhile hovered around 300W. There was no other activity happening on the machine while this test was running. @URozmej its your turn. Thanks EF Security for the short downtime! It was a great test to run.

During syncing we were saturating about 60-75% of our symmetric gigabit fiber connection. Once syncing was complete, it began syncing the old bodies, fully saturating our link. RAM usage was about 50-60GB during sync, and 75GB once old bodies are started to sync.

However, this was thanks to the possibility that I was able to run it on AMD's latest Genoa CPU with 96C and 256RAM. (Borrowed our fuzzing machine, as I saw nobody was using it during the weekend). CPU utilization was hovering around 1800%-2500% so using about 18-25cores syncing

After @NethermindEth announcing that their latest version is a lot quicker, I have decided to put this up to the test. Managed to sync Ethereum Mainnet in 41 mins and 20 seconds. 15:53:06.478 - Syncing started 16:34:26.864 - Syncing completed Reaching a peak of 15500 blocks/sec
