A collaborative force in UK politics. Leader: Mandu Reid
Promoted by Catherine Smith on behalf of the Women's Equality Party at 124 City Road, London, EC1V 2NX
The victim was hit in the face, shoved into a hamster cage, pushed over repeatedly & threatened with a wooden pallet. It was caught on camera & there’s evidence of previous offences.
The judge: “I could have sent you to prison for this.”
WHY DIDN’T YOU?
Make no mistake. Women will die because of this ruling, and tens of thousands more will be criminalised or forced to continue with pregnancies they did not choose. It is barbaric, inhumane and utterly heartbreaking. Solidarity with our sisters.
It is outrageous that the
@metpoliceuk
are trying to distance themselves from the
#SarahEverard
case by saying the arrested officer wasn’t on duty at the time. Being in a position of authority gives you power all the time, and violence against women is rarely spontaneous
Like all violence against women, this was not inevitable. The Met and the London Mayor could have worked with women on the ground to support a Covid safe vigil. Instead they are bringing more violence

Grace Millane's blood-alcohol level did not kill her.
Going on a date did not kill her.
Travelling alone did not kill her.
What killed her was the man who strangled her & then took photos of her body.
The media must stop blaming her actions for his choice
This sentence is cruel and utterly heartbreaking. No woman should go to prison for seeking healthcare. It is not in the public interest to rip her away from her children and imprison her.
We must decriminalise abortion. Until then, women are at risk.
Today a woman in England was sentenced to over two years in prison for having an abortion.
WE are taking action.
On Saturday 17th June at 1.00pm WE will march with
@BPAS1968
and
@fawcettsociety
to demand the decriminalisation of abortion.
A suspended sentence or a pardon is not true justice for a woman who should never have been on trial in the first place. WE are calling for a new investigation and a trial of the 12 men & boys involved.

#WeBelieveHer
Grace Millane was killed. Now her family must listen to her killer use the 'sex game gone wrong' defence. Use of that defence has increased 90% in a decade. In the UK a woman is strangled to death by a partner every 2 weeks. This defence MUST be banned.
These incredibly serious allegations of sex trafficking and rape of a child in London must be investigated by the Met. Prince Andrew must cooperate with their investigation and the FBI. The law must be applied equally to men in positions of power.
“It is perpetuating the stereotype that women are crazy and hormonal. Most women will experience their hormones being used against them to pathologise them as crazy or unreasonable. There is an undertone of misogyny there."
@ManduReid
They knew. The Met knew about the allegations for TWENTY years. They did nothing as a serial rapist abused his power. They are complicit.
Misogyny will never be stripped from the police without a nationwide, statutory inquiry.

No need for investigative journalism in the case of Andrew Tate because his misogyny has always been in PLAIN SIGHT. The question is why his hatred of women gave him access, money, fame and power
Corrected: International Chess Federation shows the world it believes in 'girl-brains' and 'boy-brains'.
Sexist, transphobic bullsh**.
Their priority right now should be responding to the allegations of rife sexual abuse and sexism in chess

The man running the country has literally broken the law, and the news of the day is… a female politician sitting crossed legged.
These headlines are 5 years apart. This is how misogyny has improved under a Conservative government.

. An adult cannot be accused of having sex with a 14 year old girl - it is an accusation of rape. We need to stop normalising sexual violence and abuse.
On

WE demand 12 weeks ‘use it or lose it’ shared parental leave, paid at 90 percent of pay. Because making it normal for fathers to share care of their children breaks down stereotyped expectations and increases men's levels of satisfaction and happiness.

The furore surrounding Prince Harry's interview/book shouldn't distract from his point on how platforming men who promote violence against women only serves to normalise it - and them. Spot on.

Have you already forgotten the disproportionate and devastating impact of COVID on BAME communities? Could you not find any black or brown “national treasures” to help support vaccination? Do better.
Police are quick to categorise tragedies like these 'isolated incidents' but they aren't. A woman is killed by a man every three days in the UK. Male violence against women and girls is an epidemic.
A serving police officer has kidnapped, raped & murdered Sarah Everard AFTER being reported for indecent exposure. It’s the dismissal & disbelief of women. It’s the culture of impunity for men in power. It’s the performative words with no action. 1/2

And we’re tired of white men calling ‘witch hunt’ and refusing to examine the societal privileges that afford them so much scope to behave poorly without consequence 🤷♀️
This is outrageous and EVERYONE should be worried about it. The government has accepted all the dysfunction and discrimination in policing and given them even more powers in order to silence dissent

Toby Young's resignation is welcome - but ministers must be held to account for why they thought it was ever appropriate to appoint somebody with a history of misogyny and attacks on disabled people.
We can now call Donald Trump what he is: a sexual predator.
Huge, huge solidarity with and respect for E Jean Carroll who has been through hell before and during this trial.
Never again ask a woman why she didn’t report. You know damn well why.
A woman wrote a letter to female students asking them to stop wearing leggings because the sight of leggings ‘made it difficult for young guys to ignore women’s bodies’ so we decided to wear ours today as a reminder that women are not responsible for men’s actions

No one:
Absolutely no one:
Literally no one at all:
The Telegraph: Let’s make sure we include how nice some people thought a rapist, murderer and MET POLICE OFFICER was on the day he’s sentenced.
Conviction rates for rape in London are so low that it has effectively been decriminalised. Ending violence against women & girls MUST be made a political priority.

This is so horrific Shola. We stand with you, always. Violence like this is used as a tool to silence those - especially women of colour - who speak out against racism. Nobody should have to endure this.

Women's health is jeopardised by male-centred research, diagnosis & treatment that ignore our different biology - often with severe consequences. This is exactly why WE have policies that put sex and gender at the core of healthcare.
'You can't consent to your own murder.'
We are relieved that Grace Millane's killer has been convicted & that the jury rejected the appalling 'sex game gone wrong' lie. It's time this defence - which blames women for men's violence - was scrapped entirely.
This £10m grant for ending violence against women launched today but the deadline for applications is in SEVEN DAYS. That makes it IMPOSSIBLE for small, specialist organisations who most need it to access the funding. RT now to ask

This really is an alarming story. Maternal mortality rates are typically used as an indication of a country's overall health, so what we're seeing here is a clear sign of our healthcare, *and wider social support* system being on the brink of collapse. 1/4

From the judge: “Your mother rejected you; that may go some way towards explaining your attitude towards women,”
Stop. Blaming. Women. For. Men’s. Behaviour.
Congratulations to
@Joanne4Mayor
for her historic win in Liverpool today. Ending violence against women and girls will be a political priority under her Mayoralty. This is a huge victory.
This is devastating news and we are thinking of Emma Pattison and her daughter Lettie, and all their loved ones today.
Violence is not inevitable. This never should have happened. We must end violence against women and girls.
“As dark as my story is, I do speak from my heart, for my life, and for the life of others, whom have suffered the same.” A brave and painful account from

Scenes from earlier tonight when we tried to stop Mark Field MP from being reselected as Conservative candidate after he grabbed a woman by the neck. He has since resigned. Next up? His brother in law, Charlie Elphicke MP who has been charged with three counts of sexual assault
This verdict is appalling. Judge concluded that guilt was proven because her claims were “inconsistent” but it is very common after a trauma to have inconsistencies in recollection. We need to overhaul handling of sexual violence cases

Can't believe this needs to be said but:
1) DON'T tax women for exercising their bodily autonomy.
2) Know what would help women who want children? Universal free childcare. There's a radical, long-term idea that doesn't trample over women's rights.
