Abortion is essential healthcare, and an unplanned pregnancy can happen to a woman at any stage of her reproductive lifetime. There should be no shame, and no stigma.

Following the law change in England and Wales, there's an even greater urgency for reform in Scotland. We currently sit on an expert group chaired by Scotland's Women’s Health Champion and recommendations will be published in the coming months.

This is a landmark moment for women’s rights in this country and the most significant change to our abortion law since the 1967 Abortion Act was passed. Thank you to everyone who has campaigned alongside us. We did it.

Nandi was coerced into taking abortion pills after the 24-week limit by a partner who lied about having cancer. She was prosecuted—until the judge recognised the abuse she endured. This is why we must decriminalise abortion. Ask your MP to support NC1

Kirsty asked for help too late for local care and was referred nationally—but no appointment was available before the 24-week legal limit. Her pregnancy ended after the limit, and both she and her partner were investigated by police.

BPAS’ Katherine O’Brien spoke to ABC News Australia about the sharp rise in abortion prosecutions in England & Wales. We’re calling for women to be removed from criminal law when ending a pregnancy. This wouldn’t change time limits — just protect women.
