In a new @nberpubs wp with Enrico Cantoni, we ask whether #GOTV visits by candidates can increase voter support and participation: can candidates “bridge the gap” with voters by engaging more often in personal interactions with them? 1/N
A field experiment in Italy shows that candidates’ door-to-door visits had no impact on election turnout. Candidates increased their own vote share, but only at the expense of other candidates, from Enrico Cantoni and @VinPons.

Latest target of the #Trump administration's crusade against immigrants: students attending schools which will have to operate online due to #COVID19. These students "must depart the country or take other measures." Faculty: let's do all we can to help.
This is bad. ICE just told students here on student visas that if their school is going online-only this fall, the students must depart the United States and cannot remain through the fall semester.
