The best estimate I found is 2 trillion texts are sent in the US annually, or like 6k per person. If you charged a $0.01 per text tax, that's $5/mo for the mean texter (median certainly much lower) but would probably wipe out these scams and spam.
Is anyone working on how to prevent these sort of scams? It could easily fool a lot of people and I get them all the time.
