An ISCRM research team of biologists, engineers, and physicians shows that fibroblasts, often thought of as helpers, may weaken the heart by causing a harmful cycle of stiffening and scarring, and pinpoints a potential fix.
Fibroblasts, cells that help repair heart damage, can also cause harm in conditions like dilated cardiomyopathy. Shutting down a fibroblast signaling pathway restores heart functioning in lab model @ScienceMagazine @UWBioE @UWISCRM
