🚨🔔 🚨🔔 🚨🔔 🚨🔔 🚨🔔 HSE are holding their AGM on 29th July. I have tabled 3 questions in advance. These may be of interest to healthcare workers - those still in service and those who were injured by Covid and can no longer work (or are limited as to what they can do).

I’ve started thinking about New Year hopes and desires. Top of my list is for politicians to learn the word ‘sequelae’. And then to be able to think about mitigating the things that might happen in the next 3-8 years (ie beyond the next GE and/or immediate leadership ambitions)

“When it comes to flu, the focus is often on droplet transmission, but there’s also evidence of aerosol transmission. That means that ventilation & air filtration are HUGELY important. “Are the Govt looking to improve that to help deal with all the respiratory infections?” /1
Good ventilation and air filtration are critical tools in preventing respiratory infections. The Government must assess current standards in hospitals and schools — and act where they fall short. #Flu #Covid #Ventilation Full response 👉 https://t.co/gbvXNhQn6H

@annesmithmcc @NorthumbriaNHS @bmj_latest @AshleyDalton_MP @BOHSworld @SafeDavid3 @barryjmjones The IPC cell still don't acknowledge the overwhelming evidence of airborne transmission - so to duck accountability. Urgent action is somehow *still to be taken*. As well as the 3 prior Tory govs, this is now also on Labour's watch, and is inexcusable. https://t.co/AEyuYH7czd
Closing remarks at the UK COVID-19 Inquiry (CATA): 'The IPC Cell would rather maintain wrongthinking than admit failures.' Shockingly, Dr. Lisa Ritchie, Chair of the IPC Cell, still claims today that “the predominant spread of COVID-19 is droplet and contact.”

🏥 | "It’s infuriating to witness a preventable crisis unfold. It’s placing intolerable strain on the NHS workforce and endangering vulnerable patients." @drmattuk warns the NHS faces a ‘state of preventable emergency’ as the flu outbreak escalates. https://t.co/ybfYuO1BsO

Dingwall started the pandemic by saying "im not suggesting a cull" before going on to suggest that families should consider the benefits of letting vulnerable family die from covid
Just like we could usefully have done without a resurgence of flu, we could usefully have done without a resurgence of Professors Heneghan and Dingwall. Let's consider these 2 commentators objectively, one at a time... 1/7

I’ve never understood why he was in NERVTAG in the first place as a sociologist specialising in medical sociology, law and ethics. I thought NERVTAG would have been filled with experts in New & Emerging Respiratory Virus Threats. A sociologist appears to be the odd man out. 7/7

Prof Dingwall will be remembered as a member of NERVTAG, present at their meeting on 13 March 2020 when the downgrade from FFP3 respirators to surgical masks happened – the fateful consequences of which are all too well known to those HCWs denied respiratory protection. 6/7

The details of the alleged offence are set out in this letter to the Inquiry, the contents of which the Inquiry obviously accepted as credible (or else they wouldn’t have posted it on their website). https://t.co/Sk72ZSlO8B 3/7

Heneghan’s credibility was & remains irreparably tarnished by misleading the Covid-19 Inquiry. He understated the role of airborne transmission, promoting fomites & large droplets in his signed "statement of truth" (as pointed out, a s.35 offence). https://t.co/qFUFIAoUta 2/7

@KRWLaw @lawsocietyuk @lawsociety_ni @NIOgov are the local trusts up to date on basic IPC? Please read thread. It's past time for local NHS & flu risks let alone other airborne infections. @irish_news @BelTel @Planet_Belfast @derryjournal @GAHargan
🚨🩺😷🚨🩺😷 BREAKING! At last! In the UK, we have official guidance on the use of respirators (FFP3) vs Fluid Resistant Surgical Masks (FRSM) which has been prepared SPECIFICALLY FOR THE HEALTHCARE SECTOR. 🚨🩺😷🚨🩺😷

This feels like an important breakthrough moment… On the BBC News this evening, Medical Editor @BBCFergusWalsh clearly stated: “As for facemasks, simple surgical masks are *not* good at stopping viruses. You really need a properly fitted tight respirator mask for that”… /1

This is important to understand: Surgical masks do NOT provide adequate protection against infectious aerosols. “Live viruses could be detected in the air behind all surgical masks tested. By contrast, properly fitted respirators could provide at least a 100-fold reduction.”
Research by the Health and Safety Executive in 2008 (“Evaluating the protection afforded by surgical masks against influenza bioaerosols”) categorically ruled out FRSMs as being effective against influenza bioaerosols. That’s *2008* https://t.co/UfDMCYwCTw

Dear NHS, Winging it is not an effective IPC strategy. This is an airborne virus. You need to prevent inhalation and get it out of the air.

Last week I was invited by the NEU to their annual H&S conference in Manchester to talk about the Clean Air for Kids campaign on getting better air quality in classrooms. We must stop the spread of sickness in schools. For the health of children and their teachers..

Why isn’t @Telegraph & UK media covering what the @covidinquiryuk has repeatedly revealed but even now refuses to act on: • Whitty @CMO_England failed to recognise and act on airborne transmission early • there was credible scientific evidence that COVID-19 spreads via aerosol
Prof Sir Chris Whitty silenced government ethics advisers who warned about the impact of Covid policies, The Telegraph can disclose. Read what else the investigation revealed here ⬇️ https://t.co/mB5J92JWlU

This beggars belief. SE Asian countries had a fraction of our death rate...the complete opposite of the farcical 🇸🇪 "strategy", their hyper-efficient FTTIS systems meant outbreaks were caught and suppressed, so they rarely saw restrictions anything like ours. #SuppressionWorks
The Covid Inquiry is there to help us to learn lessons and change how we plan for pandemics. But, NHS England quietly published a strategy (July '24) that says: it will not be possible to halt the spread of a new pandemic virus, and it would be a waste... to attempt to do so 2/
