Métis, Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation Commissioner, Co-Chair Childcare Council of Vancouver, VSB teacher, Lacrosse player, Benson DuBois’ biggest fan
I’m honoured to learn I received the most votes for Park Board at John Norquay elementary school poll station. Norquay was my great, great grandfather and Canada’s first

Thank you

It has been my honour to serve Vancouver as a
@ParkBoard
Commissioner this year. As an ABC candidate, I knocked on a lot of doors with my fellow candidates and promised to keep our elected Board and to manage it professionally.
I intend on keeping that promise.
We are excited to meet this challenge and remove the temporary Stanley Park bike. The Board is also excited that the park user experience, summer usage data and stakeholders will be considered when staff report back to the Board in summer 2023.
“This is all done behind closed doors to abolish the park board. How is our park space going to be protected moving forward, if things are done in the dark like this?”
#ProtectYourPark
#SaveParkBoard
Get used to this. This how our parks and recreational facilities will be ‘managed’ by ABC - backroom deals that favour their political friends and backers without any due diligence.
#SimShady
#ProtectYourPark
Why wasn’t transition plan given to the citizens of Vancouver prior to the ABC majority dominated vote to axe the park board? Where was the rationale and clear examples of cash saving? Where was the first nations engagement? Why does Premier sound like sole adult in the room?
As I sit here with my wife and family on this New Year, I truly feel the weight of my promise to make
#Vancouver
a better city. This promise to you is my promise to myself. I am excited about 2023 and the potential for our parks and recreation.
Very honoured to have the endorsement of the Police Union. Every VPD member I have met cares deeply for Vancouver and it’s residents.

Under the terms of UNDRIP, the City must consult and collaborate with the Nations. Collaboration is a proactive and inclusive process that should have occurred well before the December 6th announcement.
The motion put forward by Mayor Sim is flawed and undemocratic.
.
@christineeboyle
moved an amendment to have the City consult with the Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh Nations before taking any action on the Park Board - as is our responsibility under UNDRIP.
@Vote4ABC
voted it down.
This is concerning. As the recently named Co-Chair of the Childcare Council of Vancouver, this decision does not meet with our mandate to add more childcare spaces throughout Vancouver. I’d be pleased to work alongside you addressing this matter.
This morning I was disappointed to read that an application for more much-needed childcare spaces in our city was rejected by an independent review board. Increasing childcare spaces is a priority for our communities, and I’ve asked city staff what mechanisms there are to review
The first trip of the Stanley Park train this year! Incredible work

Thanks to all that have reached out to share their support for our elected Park Board. If you want to protect our parks, please sign up to speak at City Hall on December 13th. The Councillors deserve to hear your concerns too.

already has the 2nd highest tax bill in the Lower Mainland. This aggressive tax grab will cause even more pain for families struggling to keep up with rising inflation. And, will any of this new money be invested in our city or spent frivolous on pet projects?

Tonight’s
#ParkBoard
decision from Mayor Sim & ABC is so disrespectful and undemocratic.
They didn’t run on this promise, they haven’t tried to improve things. And now they’re ramming forward to eliminate a democratically elected body mid-way through their term. 1/4 🧵
This
@Vote4ABC
election promise was unanimously approved at tonight’s

meeting! We are excited about the opportunity for residents to respectfully and responsibly enjoy a drink at one of our many beautiful parks and beaches.

Donnie Rosa has left as General Manager of the Board of Parks and Recreation. As we begin the search for a new permanent General Manager, Steve Jackson has been named as Acting GM.
We want to thank Donnie for their years of service to the City and wish them luck in their future.
I will continue to advocate for the 71,174 voters that elected me onto the Park Board. Democracy matters.
I will continue to fight to protect our parks and to ensure transparency and engagement is included in all decisions.

In summary: if this motion passes, council will be free to sell/build condos on our waterfront (Spanish Banks & Sunset), and potentially more locations, without their proposed protections. They are not protecting our parks.

Thank you

for having me on your show this afternoon. Stanley Park bike lane, Park Board revenue opportunities, alcohol in parks and even the Stanley Park train - so much to talk about.
I spent yesterday afternoon touring the damage to the Kitsilano Showboat with the Society’s President. Although the damage is extensive, the Showboat will go on! It was great to hear about all of the community support and encouragement being shared with the Society. We care.

Very honoured to lay the Vancouver Board of Parks & Recreation wreath at the Victory Square cenotaph yesterday in recognition of Remembrance Day. God bless those that served for our freedoms.

This is why delivering core city services matters - families enjoying a picnic in one of our clean & well maintained parks where you can enjoy an adult beverage, spray park keeping the kids cool, people connecting, building community!
Thank you.
Everything that happened today was expected. This was simply politics over principle.
We will continue to faithfully represent our constituents.
I still cannot believe the Mayor presented a motion to abolish the duly-elected Park Board without consulting with the First Nations, the affected Labour unions and the Community Associations.
I’m equally disappointed that it was passed.

West End residents begging the city and (surprise!) the Park Board to turn on the fountains at Bute and Haro. City says they need to be retrofitted first. Makes no sense why this work couldn’t have been done over the winter months, but par for the course in Vancouver these days.

This MUST stop! I fear for too many and hear from so many that they have stopped walking downtown due to this violence. Mental health and addiction services have been denied for too long. 100 nurses are a great start.
