📢Paper Alert: https://t.co/VJOZKZyiGD. We characterized tRNA-overlapping lncRNA loci = tROLs! tROL perturbations silence codon-biased genes in inter-chromosomal proximity. tROLs bridge the non-coding and coding genomes. @MoGen_Grad @SickKidsNews @SK_GGB @lncRNA_papers @CIHR_IG

Proud to see this work on a new #machinelearning model for #RNA structure, ECSFinder, now online https://t.co/oFjhOp8mg1 This work was led by @non_coding_gal , a PhD student co-supervised with @martinalexsmith at @ramacgenomics in collab with John Mattick. Full thread 👇🏼

RNA is far more than a messenger. Its structures regulate, evolve, and catalyze — carrying out functions DNA and proteins cannot alone. But predicting #RNA structure from sequence is still extremely difficult. In our latest NAR paper, we present a way forward. 🧵 ⤵️

What role do inter-chromosomal contacts play in organizing genome structure, and how can we effectively detect and analyze them across different cell types? @NatureComms @SickKidsNews @UofT "Inter-chromosomal contacts demarcate genome topology along a spatial gradient" • This

Perspective. Uncovering previously hidden patterns in the genome and understanding how chromosomes communicate in healthy and disease genomes is next. Big THANKS to the incredible team, to @ericjoycelab, Samin Aref, Thomas Liehr, Anja Weise, and to funding agencies! @CIHR_IG

New rules of genome topology. 61 ‘topological anchors’ occur across cell types at the speckles, where especially p- and q-telomeric contacts coalesce regions of highest gene density and transcription factor binding and synergistically shape genome topology by a spatial gradient.

Contradictory findings. Rabl’s configuration with extensive inter-telomeric and inter-centromeric clustering exists across human cell types. Despite recent findings, Rabl’s configuration and chromosomal territories may not be mutually exclusive.

Fundamental Properties. Recurrent inter-chromosomal contacts occur in gene-dense and highly expressed genomic regions that harbor cell-specific and sex-specific genes. Check your cell type of interest in Supplementary Data 3 & 4.
