Excited to share our recent pre-print! The Vibrio cholerae encoded Nezha anti-phage system (SIR2-HerA) restricts virulent vibriophages ICP1, ICP2, and ICP3 by depleting NAD+ (Abi💀). However, an ICP1 isolate can overcome this by encoding putative NAD+ regenerating proteins! ⚡️

Really excited to share my first preprint as a postdoc! Here, we determined that the BREX-inhibitor, OrbA, encoded by the lytic phage ICP1 inhibits BREX through the ATPase BrxC in V. cholerae. https://t.co/DKPyKcBWDW

Story time: when I started my postdoc with @WatersLabMSU in August last year, we aimed to use V. cholerae to understand how genetic interactions, including epistasis and pleiotropy, influences its pathogenesis and evolution. 1/18

@jwmodell lab and I are excited to celebrate #WorldPhageWeek this year with our new preprint, showing how CRISPR-Cas9 systems can respond to phage-encoded anti-CRISPRs and ultimately counterbalance Acr-phage infections!
biorxiv.org
CRISPR-Cas immune systems provide bacteria with adaptive immunity against bacteriophages, but they are often transcriptionally downregulated to mitigate autoimmunity. In some cases, CRISPR-Cas...
