The strategy also mirrors other recommendations from our report, including: 🏠 A commitment to extend the Decent Homes Standard & Awaab’s Law to TA & to eliminate use of B&Bs ℹ️ A new TA Toolkit to provide good practice guidance, including on management of out-of-area placements.

It was wonderful to see the government’s Homelessness Strategy recognising our campaign to ensure people living in TA have access to the Five Basic Standards that we all expect in our day-to-day lives: cooking, laundry, Wi-Fi, storage, and clear information.

We are delighted that the Government has announced in its Child Poverty Strategy that GPs and schools will be notified when a family is placed in Temporary Accommodation. TA has a huge impact on children's health and education, and this will make a real difference. @Siobhain_Mc

Shared Health has continuously campaigned, launched pilots, and written guidance calling for the Government’s commitment to better support children in temporary accommodation. We are pleased to see the policies we have been calling for implemented in the Child Poverty Strategy.

A new clinical code will also mean these children can be monitored through the NHS. Taken together, these policies can improve the lives of families in temporary accommodation and help to prevent children from ‘slipping through the cracks’ in education, health, and safeguarding.

We’re particularly encouraged by the govt's pledge to end the unlawful use of B&B's for families beyond six weeks, the introduction of a notification system for local housing authorities to inform GPs, health visitors & schools when a child moves into temporary accommodation.
