Pre-print out from the @SternbergLab with our contribution on the structural side. Great effort from Matt, Egill Tanner and the rest of the team leaded by awesome Sam! .A 1 year effort on my side learning helical reconstruction by cryoEM. 👇
1/16 New pre-print from the Sternberg Lab!.We uncover how temperate phages can use RNA-guided transcription factors to remodel the flagellar composition of their bacterial host and enhance their fitness. Find the preprint and full story here:

Good luck! Great place to do a PhD or postdoc here!.
🚨 Extremely excited to share that I’m joining @Columbia University as an Assistant Professor!. The Thawani Lab will explore how the mobile genome works—how transposons shape us, our DNA and how they can be harnessed to build useful technologies. We’re hiring at all levels! If

tRNAs are amazing. heavily post-transcriptionally modified molecules, these modifications fine tune their action and have important biological consequences. here an example. very cool!.
An RNA modification prevents extended codon-anticodon interactions from facilitating +1 frameshifting 🦠 m1G (TrmD) at position 37 modulates tRNA conformation on ribosome and suppresses +1 FS induced by tRNA-Pro (four base pair codon-anticodon) 💫.

👀.
Now published in @NatureComms! 🥳. 👉 We developed image analysis tools to capture the nematic orientation field of 3D tissue surfaces and combined soft matter physics with experimental biology. 1/n

wild stuff!.
My paper is out in @ScienceMagazine!. We found a novel host defense strategy where #mitochondria, our domesticated microbes, compete with the intracellular pathogen #Toxoplasma for #folate.

cool!.
#Guanidine was known since the 1870s to affect muscle function. Vertebrates have guanidine-sensing #riboswitch RNAs linked to genes relevant to muscle disorders, including some for Ca2+ signaling and others relevant to #ataxia symptoms. @NatureComms

we have a (big) problem in science. shocking stuff 👇.
A new paper, published in PNAS, suggests that "large groups of editors and authors. cooperated to facilitate publishing fraud." The authors used statistical analyses and huge databases of papers to figure this out. But first, some context on paper mills. There is a well-known

WOW!. JEOL cryo-ARM-300 + DE Apollo. I like it!.
First cryo-EM map of Apoferritin from our new @JEOL_Japan @JEOLUSA @JEOLEUROPE cryoARM300-II with @DirectElectron Apollo detector. Collected over night and processed in 1 day with @cryosparc using all-default settings from only 76k particles. H/R B-factor=28 at 1.5A. Not too

glycoRNAs . still shocked by this idea. Cool stuff here!.
Hi everybody! I am super excited to share the work done during my PhD published in @nature today! We describe a new mechanism of self- vs. non-self RNA discrimination by showing how N-glycans shield glycoRNAs from stimulating endosomal RNA sensors
