This man, a total stranger, encourages me daily. Even though I've some things thrown my way, it doesn't compare to what he's walking. May we all live life with John's mindset!
If you were told you had 2 months to live, what would you do? Take a one-way ticket to Rio? Live furiously & do what the hell you wanted? I had to face this news & it's the hardest thing I've ever had to deal with. I met it with dignity and hope. That was over 3 years ago now.

The last time I ordered, I got the same message. Was upset because the pizza was delivered in record time for a Friday night. My poor driver was exhausted. I filled out the survey to give him & the cook the highest review possible. Also, let them know I had ZERO complaints.

As an R* and SA survivor, I can NOT handle male doctors. I'm extremely grateful for female physicians. Regardless of what you think, they absolutely have a place and we NEED them!!!!

YEP!!! I have a queer kid who has queer friends. Those kids can be free & open at my house, but not at their homes b/c parents would freak out. It's ridiculous and heartbreaking.

I was shocked. In our house, stockings are pretty much candy & favorite snacks. My hubs does a fantastic job of making sure my stocking is filled with my favorite type of chocolate/ chocolate bars.

I'm the opposite of angry. You validated what I was feeling. Not only that, you backed it up with scripture a put things into context. For so long the SBC has taken scripture out of context and used it to keep women in a submissive, lowly place. You gave us empowerment.

You do you! YOU know YOUR kiddo!!! There are times when typical rules NEED to GO out the window! Vacation is one of those time. My kids got out of school Thursday for the summer. We have yet to keep a single rule we have during the school year. It's OK!

Where the **** is her husband and the **** isn't he helping her? I was so sick with all 3 of my pregnancies, BUT my HUSBAND was right there with me. I did NOT have to do everything by myself. The house was clean, but not spotless. I don't understand living like that.

At 14 my daughter is already 5'5. There is NOTHING short on her. Trying to find her shorts, that don't look like her brothers' basketball shorts is near impossible. She has gotten to where she wears capri yoga pants w/ an oversized t-shirt. It's just stupid.

NOPE! Not insane. It's a scarily accurate view of what so many of us walked, even those of us who weren't in IBLP homes. Many of those teachings bled over into the conservative, fundy, SBC churches.

Our 13 yr old has never been a good sleeper. It's not uncommon for him to grab a blanket and curl up at the end of our bed. I can't fathom punishing a child for struggling to fall asleep.

When you are the one getting siblings up, making sure they have breakfast, get them to the bus stop, fixing snacks & dinner, making sure they shower & go to bed. Also, babysitting for FULL days and evenings, you are beyond the realm of norm.

YES! I made my husband keep his wedding band on & me in mine on our wedding night because I was terrified the Lord was going to strike us, if we didn't. Purity Culture was the WORST thing to happen to marriage. Those of us who walked SA, there was added layer of shame.

I hate you experienced that. The cashier "should" have kept their mouth shut. During the Covid shutdown, I used rice to beef up recipes to make them more filling. Rice is a pantry staple for us, even now. My husband's comfort meal is sausage & rice. Roughly $3 a meal.

YES! My tween & 2 teens acted a fool during youth group this afternoon. Then they fought the entire way home. I told my hubs I needed a mama timeout & walked around Target. I knew I needed a minute before I said something I regretted. Grace & mercy are needed daily as parents.

2) Psych wards are turning people away in droves who pose not SI or HI.
3) Last, but not least the SBC has ZERO jurisdiction over her. I pray they don't win. I also hope, somehow she can sue & have them charged w/ false imprisonment.

This was my birth giver's favorite thing to do. I was in my mid 30s before I learned this was a bad thing & emotionally abusive. I've never done it w/ my kids because I hated it as a kid. I thought it was normal b/c she BRAGGED about it before I went no contact.

I grew up IBLP adjacent. It's only been w/in the past couple of years that I realize how much Gothard's mentality colored what our church and denomination believed. Dobson parroted much of Gothard's teachings, just not the extreme hair & dress code for women.

It may also have something do with the fact that a conservative parent defended their child's SA perp and acted like it wasn't a big deal, to the point of comparing/ speaking said perps name over grandchildren in spite of being asked not to. Girls are viewed as mere property.

My youngest is a 5th grader and grateful we aren't worried about this. That being said, it's RIDICULOUS! NONE of my 3 are great test takers. Their TCAP scores are not representative of their grades. A bad day, should NOT equate to being held back!

Christmas is a day my family stays home together, as a family of 5. My hubby is an entertainer & I'm a state worker. It's a day neither one of us work. I don't see the Lord frowning on an intentional family day. My hubby reads Luke 2: 1-20 on Christmas Eve.

While I honestly love being a wife & mom, I also NEED to work outside the home. Part of it has to do w/ finances & the other part is I'm a much better person w/ a fulfilling career. I support women either way. Any wife who has no say, is not in a safe marriage. We CAN do both!

Working on it. I'll 7 plus years of therapy, a supportive husband, and inner circle all help on this front. My kids are being raised in completely different manner than I was. Conversations are had. Apologies are given. Most important my kids have a VOICE in our house!

My kids are being raised completely different. I would prefer they wait until marriage, but I refuse to teach them they will go to hell, or be "filthy" because they made a different choice. I'm currently in group therapy with other women who walked SA & have Religious Trauma.

Hubby is self-employed & works from home.
My hubby does carpool.
I LOVE football & work the chains for my 6th grader's JV games.
Our 3 kids are happy & thriving.
We BOTH cook & clean.
We work as a TEAM!
There is more than 1 way to have a happy, godly marriage.

I know many female nurses, PAs, and doctors. NOT one single one of them has ever stated they regretted their decision. They were able to have families AND careers. As an SA survivor, I'm grateful for female doctors. I wouldn't receive medical care otherwise.

I feel as long as certain body parts are covered, it's fine. My daughter is TALL. She is more comfortable in tankinis than anything else. This year, she shocked me and went w/ a traditional 1 piece. I was raised purity culture & REFUSE to go down that road w/ my daughter.

BS to Dave's post. I have been married almost 18 yrs. Sexual sin has NOTHING to do with my deconstruction. I want to live a life more like Christ. I want to love like He loved. I want to let go of the legalism & hypocrisy of the SBC. He hasn't had a conversation with one of us.

I played FIELD HOCKEY in college, on top of singing in our college choir, & taking/ teaching dance. Do you think I'm weak or unfeminine? I have now been married for 18 years, have 3 kiddos & 2 fur girls. One has absolutely NOTHING to do w/ the other!

I want my daughter healthy, but NOT b/c I expect her to pop out a dozen babies when she's older. "IF" birth control is needed for a medical issue, I will not stop her from taking it. I will NOT body shame her. She knows who she is in Christ. My daughter knows unconditional love!

Sadly, many pastors are way too comfortable telling their congregations they can't love Jesus, if they vote anything other than red. It sucks and it's hard to sit in those services. I am way more "progressive" than most in my church. That does NOT mean I love Jesus any less.

I struggle with that question. It hasn't been asked of me yet, but I don't how I'll respond when it does. I'm an empath & obedient to a fault. I went no contact almost 2 yrs ago & want to stay that way. When the person is on their death bed, not sure what I'll choose to do.

That has NOT been my experience. I'm with a trauma informed/ trained therapist who has an alphabet behind her name. My church wanted me to leave her & go see a Biblical Counselor who had no trauma training. I didn't do what was asked, so I was "disobedient."

I've been in therapy for 8 yrs, no contact with my NM for 2 yrs. I was invited, joined my BFF & her mom for lunch & a candy making class yesterday. Even though I have my hubby, 3 kiddos, & 2 fur girls, I am struggling stupid hard today. Sitting in my room, fighting back tears.
