I’m so sick of seeing Christians in America claim persecution.
You aren’t being persecuted for loving Jesus you are being held accountable for not acting like him.
I have 2 kids and 9 different dress up days next week.
This is ridiculous.
1. It expects families to be able to go out at the drop of a hat and get multiple Christmas character shirts and ugly sweaters at the most expensive time of year… 1/3
Most people do celebrate Christmas where I live but then it’s even more alienating for people that don’t.
Have a PJ Day on the last day before break and call it good… please. 3/3
It’s just another way to alienate kids whose families can’t afford a bunch of extra stuff or the mental load of the extra work.
2. It also assumes EVERYONE in the school celebrates Christmas and creates a whole week out of dressing up for it… 2/3
My yearly reminder, my Roman Empire, the hill I will die on:
Not all flannel is plaid. Not all plaid is flannel.
Flannel is a fabric type.
Plaid is a pattern.
They are not interchangeable.
I’m just pointing out that it’s extra work and money when kids want to participate.
And how it’s alienating when they want to but can’t afford it.
Christmas is already a time that highlights financial differences in families and this really magnifies it more.
Anyone else self conscious about how much they talk? Whenever I leave a group or a conversation I have a guilt hangover for feeling like I talked too much the whole time.
Some comments before I mute-
“Just don’t do it” is a silly response to a kid excited to dress up.
I have 1 kid who doesn’t much care & one who cares a lot & would feel very left out if I said to suck it up.
Obviously it’s optional and you can do whatever works for your family.
It’s annoying seeing people complain about Lin Manuel Miranda writing 2 Disney movies or having a distinct sound when Howard Ashman wrote basically all of the Disney 90s renaissance musicals and John Williams has made a 3+ decade long career of having a recognizable score.
Yesterday I learned that kid shoe sizes transition seamlessly in to men’s shoe sizes while women have a completely different numbering system.
Because the impact of the patriarchy is literally everywhere.
Hearing the covid deniers - down-players - people that said “it’s only 1% of people” singing about God caring about the 1 away from the 99 really is something else.
I think this past year hurts so much because I just expected Christians to care about others. To be better than the world. To care about abuse. To care about women. To care about the sick. To care about the poor. To care about the oppressed.
But so many just don’t.
One hill that I will die on is that if a couple makes the choice to pursue a permanent form of birth control 95% of the time the man should be the one to take one for the team.
Planned before a scheduled c-section while surgery is already happening makes sense. But that’s it.
Does it bother anyone else that weeks are an odd number, making it impossible to create a consistent every other day routine that also coordinates with the same days of the week every week?
It has never been America that needed to “come back to God” it’s the church that does.
And if you can’t tell the difference between the two you’ve made an idol of America.
One thing I find frustrating about older generations complaining about kids getting screen time these days is how little they consider how absent parents have been for a majority of our history in America. 1/
I’ll just throw this out there:
I wonder how many thousands of churches are still functioning today because of the paid and unpaid work women do to keep them running smoothly.
And how many congregations are made up of more women than men?
A couple weeks ago my pastor wore a baseball hat while he preached. Several people walked out because of it.
The topic he was preaching on?
Legalism. 👏
This is my campaign to make all men responsible for cleaning the toilets in their houses.
Because I don’t know about yours but the men in mine make up about 95% of the mess in and around the toilet.
The cognitive dissonance required to believe we are a christian government and nation, run on biblical beliefs, but it’s not the governments job to help the poor, oppressed, immigrant, and orphaned really boggles my brain.
Fosse/ Verdon is finally on Hulu. That means tonight I have to balance watching it between This is Us and
@Lin_Manuel
on
@FallonTonight
.
It’s going to be tough but I think I can manage.
@Specially_Kay
When the perceived “persecution” is rooted in white supremacy, Christian nationalism, racism, trumpism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, xenophobia, islamophobia, anti-semitism etc.
@mcgottman99
I don’t mind dress up weeks if it’s inclusive and easy to do things like school colors, hat day, mismatch day.
My biggest issue is having one at Christmas time and having days that require so much effort or money to participate.
Woke up mad that so many people in a religion that is supposed to care for the sick and be compassionate to others really said “Nah, we just need to ignore the needs of the immunocompromised, sick and disabled and continue life as normal.”
If an “attack” or criticism of your politics feels like spiritual warfare then that might be a good indicator that you’ve made an idol of your politics.
I see far too many Christians brush off things like racism, sexism, abuse, gun violence, etc. because “we live in a fallen world and we can’t do anything about that” like they have completely forgotten that we pray “Thy will be done on earth, As it is in heaven.”
There are no house hold jobs that women, as a whole, are intrinsically better at.
It’s just that we were taught how to actually do them and men were taught that women are “just better at them”
One difference between American English and British English that I don’t think gets highlighted enough is how often Americans say “the” in front of things where Brits don’t.
“I’m going to hospital” vs “I’m going to the hospital”
It seems to me that the more a man is concerned with “biblical manhood” or appearing “masculine” the more completely insecure they are.
Most of the men that I know that are secure in themselves and their “masculinity” don’t care.
In 20 years do you think kids will be more happy that they didn’t have to wear a mask to school or more traumatized that they lost family, friends and teachers to a disease that could have been mitigated.
Can I comment on someone’s FB warning that Yoga welcomes in demonic forces and we should always be hyper vigilant that they should just have faith over fear?
We are not that many generations outside of child labor laws being passed.
Gen X are know as the latch key generation because they had to fend for themselves.
Parents today are more involved in their kids lives than any other generation before us.
Woke up to someone calling me a Jezebel, wicked, and a slanderer. Also they told me that God hates me, I’m not a Christian, that I don’t know Jesus and that I am an enemy of God.
So that’s fun.
Guess who got a job, for a position I didn’t have to apply for, or even really interview for, at a place where I’ve always thought would be a really good fit for my interests, abilities, and allergy accommodations?
This girl.
It breaks my heart that doing the bare minimum to care for others during a pandemic became so politicized in the church.
We should be the first in line to help and protect others.
We should be the first willing to sacrifice our comfort for our neighbors.
The chaotic layered chorus one really grinds my gears.
It has to be coming from people who don’t know musicals. It’s a hallmark of musicals! Les Mis, Into the Woods, West Side Story, Newsies, Guys and Dolls!
(There are obviously many exceptions to this and ultimately people can choose what they want for their body.
But if a man makes his wife go through a super invasive surgery because of his ego or that his manhood feels threatened then he’s a poop head.)
Thoughts on wearing vintage to a cocktail attire wedding in the spring?
Bride would probably love it, unsure if it’s the vibe though
(Please ignore my nephews mess if a room and my weird poses and hair)
I just learned that when my mom and aunts cleaned out my grandmas house in 2015 they found malt mix from 1978.
Instead of throwing it away my aunt took it to hide in her cabinet for her kids to find one day.
I just saw a bumper sticker at school drop off that took “let’s go Brandon” to a completely new and vile level.
It said “f*ck Joe and the hoe” with the swear being spelled out with guns and assault rifles.
I will never understand how people can be so awful.
Has anyone else been a SAHM for approx 8 years, gone through 2 years of a pandemic, gotten rid of all the clothes you hated in that time, then watched as fashion completely turned upside down, and now have absolutely no personal style and no idea where to restart?
Some people have main character energy. I do not.
I’m 100% ok with that.
Give me the Ron Weasleys, the Peggy’s, the Hobbits that aren’t Frodo.
Those are my people.
Men should stop wearing cargo pants.
They show far too much calf muscle and cause women to stumble and also create a deep sense of jealousy with their multiple functioning pockets.
Stop doing this men to prevent the women from the lusting and the jealousy.
What do you call it when you aren’t necessarily “deconstructing” beliefs but growing in boldness of beliefs you’ve always (sometimes secretly) held and are learning better ways to articulate and express them?
Psst:
It’s ok to be like other girls, or boys, or people.
It’s ok to like things other people like and get silly little dopamine from silly little things.
Basic is not bad.
I get it.
2% feels like a small number.
2% feels “not that bad”.
2% feels safe.
But 2% is still 700,000 people in the USA and 4,810,836 globally.
I don’t understand how people can just brush that off.
I don’t know if I will ever be over that.
Men, if you are off of work this week and your wife’s household load looks exactly the same or even heavier, then you need to step it up.
Your wife deserves a break too.
There is never, ever, ever a good reason for a church to use a fog machine during a service.
Any “pros” or reasons to justify it puts aesthetic over people. every. single. time.
Have you ever felt like God spoke to you? Like you heard a voice or narration in your head that you know was not you own?
If you have I want to know the story.
Does anyone else randomly get sad about the baby names you couldn’t or didn’t use?
We’re done but sometimes I get sad we never got to use our 2nd boy name.
If you are in America and had to move to another state or region, where would you go?
I’m in the Midwest but I feel like I could rock with the Pacific North West.
Why is it that when my mental health is not doing great one of the hardest thing for me to do is go to bed at a reasonable time when I know going to bed at a reasonable time is one of the things that will help my mental health
As a survivor of an ectopic pregnancy the last 2 days have been hard.
I know I’m not alone in this and I know every person who has had a pregnancy terminated (whether by choice or not) processes it differently but for me it’s all very triggering.
The quote that is circulating about women talking on the internet breaks my heart.
The interactions I’ve had on here with other women have restored hope, encouraged me and been truly life giving.
Thank you, ladies, for helping me grow and being a beautiful light in this world
I’m once again, standing in the middle of the pro-life / pro-choice argument, asking people from both sides to chose their words wisely and with care because there are a whole bunch of us in your life who are deeply and personally impacted by the topic.
@MellyB_7
Spirit day is usually to dress in the schools colors.
Spirit week is a week of dress up days usually around homecoming (major football game) or a basketball game in the winter
Last night while I was cooking dinner I walked up to offline hubs and said “I just want to be sad and hugged by you for a while.”
He wrapped his arms around me in a tight embrace and we just stood there for a while in comfortable silence.
Oh lovely, the “well Jesus had a whip and flipped tables” people are coming out.
If you want flipping tables Jesus maybe you should focus on the people that exploit Christianity for profit and their own personal gain not whipping the oppressed.
